ANNA CARO, 59, from Tollcross, is an artist whose portraits of nine Scottish female writers are on display in the Writers' Museum
What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? My earliest memory of Edinburgh is of a trip to the Castle with my family. All I can remember is that the walk up The Mound seemed to take forever, and that we got orange juice
What are your memories of school? I went to a girls school, Laurel Bank in Glasgow, where I learned the three rs but was always desperate to leave and find out about the big wide world, which I did as soon as I reached 17.
Where is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? There are so many, but I think my favourite is my allotment in Inverleith. There is a wonderful tranquility about gardening and being surrounded by people quietly working away. There is so much wildlife there as well and the fantastic view of the Edinburgh skyline.
What are the best things about Edinburgh? Edinburgh has so much that I love and to me the best things are the constantly changing views from every part of the city, the galleries, theatres and museums, all within walking distance, and of course, the parks. I live near the Meadows and there is always something different and fascinating happening there.
What would you change about the city? I would make the city a car-free zone, and do something about the underage drinking in the Meadows, which has got a lot worse in the past few years.
Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out. A perfect day would start with a late breakfast coffee at Falko's in Tollcross then following the canal until it joins the Water of Leith. I would follow that with dinner at Vittoria and an evening at the Lyceum or the Traverse.
Which sports interest you? I like swimming and one of these days I'll learn to rollerblade.
What was your most embarrassing moment? Many years ago I worked at the Traverse and I cut off the director in the middle of a transatlantic call. He was very nice about it, but I thought I would get the sack.
What is your greatest achievement? My two daughters.
Sum up Edinburgh in three words. Chilly, beautiful, ever-changing.
