Liz Nelson, 38, a musician, of Newington, lists her top five green spaces in and around the Capital
Holyrood Park On an energetic day, it's good to be king of the world and get to the top. But sometimes I just like to clamber up one of the more gentle slopes and pretend I'm in the countryside for a while.

Royal Botanic Garden Sitting among the calm of all those mature trees, it's easy to forget your troubles.

Beecraigs Country Park, West Lothian A gentle walk along the river is great on a Sunday afternoon, especially if you've been up too late the night before.

Rosslyn Chapel, Roslin, Midlothian It's a steep path down the valley next to this now famous place but it's well worth it, especially at bramble time.

The Meadows There's always something so carefree about taking time out on the Meadows. Perhaps that's because it's a favourite student haunt and seeing them larking around makes you think of lazy days.
