TWO new species of endangered animal are expected to arrive at Edinburgh Zoo later this year.
In a recent review for members of the zoo, staff said they hoped to welcome a kulan, a type of wild horse, and a gaur, a very large species of cattle.

Both animals are endangered, and are coming to the zoo as part of its commitment to protecting and preserving threatened species.

Kulan were once widespread over an immense region of the Gobi, but now are found only in central Mongolia, after their numbers were cut by hunting and competition for water.

The gaur is a large ox, believed to be the largest of all wild cattle, which is found in India.

So, an Ox and an Ass.

Pity they didn't engineer this move before Christmas, it would have made a great nativity story!
