Murphy takes zoo's panda plea to China

THE prospect of two giant pandas being loaned to Edinburgh Zoo will take a step forward today when the Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy meets the Chinese foreign minister.
Mr Murphy will meet with Yang Jiechi in Beijing as part of a bid to secure a breeding pair of giant pandas for the city zoo.

It had hoped to have the animals in place by this month, to coincide with the zoo's centenary celebrations, but getting the help of the Chinese government has proved more difficult than expected.

Gordon Brown raised the issue with the Chinese premier, Wen Jiabao, last year and although the Chinese authorities have been publicly very supportive, it has proved harder to secure the definite release of the pandas.

Mr Murphy hopes to speed that up by talking directly to the Chinese minister, but zoo managers do not expect the pandas in Scotland before 2010. If successful, Edinburgh Zoo would be the only UK zoo to have giant pandas.

So Murphy is away over to China at the taxpayers' espense to talk about a couple of bloody pandas? Is this his remit when the country is falling apart at the seams with bankruptcy, economic suicide and parliamentary sleaze?

Disgraceful. Where is Roofarse to explain the meaning of this action.

Murphy did not mention this was on the agenda before he went. Certainly no mention of it on The Politics show before he left Scotland.

This trip is a total waste of tax payers money. Edinburgh Zoo does not have efficient money to fund the keep of theses Pandas, so I hope Labours Jim Murphy is getting the funding from the UK Labour government and not the Scottish Scotland.

Moving theses pandas from China is not a good idea, it will traumatize them.

Labours Scottish Secretary will no doubt be saying " this is what the people of Scotland want"

NO IT IS NOT Mr Murphy!

Wonder if he asked China about the abuse of Tibetan Monks?

Giant Pandas are so gorgeous. The more the merrier I say.
