TRAM chiefs are to deploy a team of logistics helpers at the next phase of roadworks on Leith Walk.
A four-month project to divert utilities at the London Road/Leith Walk roundabout gets under way on June 2. The work was meant to start this month but delays on the design for a tram interchange meant it is behind schedule.

The work involves lane reductions on southbound Leith Walk traffic, while a contraflow will be in place for northbound traffic. The Blenheim Place and Elm Row junctions with London Road will be closed, as will the Montgomery Street Junction with Leith Walk.

From the Headline a bit of a non story - exactly what are these "logistic helpers" going to do?

#1 exactly what are these "logistic helpers" going to do?

Help with logistics. I ask you, what could be clearer? ;-)

This is going to be absolutely major disruption, with London Road closed and the top of Leith Walk reduced to a single lane. Their plans seem to involve diverting the traffic round very narrow sidestreets like Windsor Street and Gayfield Square. All will be revealed hopefully at TIE's information sessions on 22 May.

Hmmmm... I think the board of TIE must be discussing yet more ideas of how to make this project run over budget.... Come on lads, do worry about it, it's only public money after all... I'm sure the must be a few more pointless things you can spend money on?!

Exactly what is going to happen in the long-term to traffic at Picardy Place/Elm Row is quite a mystery, and TIE's website is less than helpful as usual.

Today's Vote

Should more be done to help traders affected by the ongoing tram works?
No, too many are just using them as an excuse to get cash.
I think they have been fairly treated on the whole.
Absolutely. All losses should be made good.
