MARK ROBERTSON is finally ready to start making up for lost time after a debut season with Edinburgh rugby came close to being wrecked by injury.
The 23-year-old got into team colours at the weekend appearing in the Capital Sevens at Boroughmuir ten months after signing from Borders and almost immediately succumbing to pelvic damage. Now he is ready to kick on, saying: "I was playing for Scotl
and Sevens against Wales when I did the splits which is where the injury first occurred.
"A little bit of immaturity crept in with me being more worried about not appearing soft in front of coaches if I didn't train instead of taking a month off to ensure I recovered properly.
"However , physios have always reassured me things will turn out all right and hopefully I can have an involvement in the two remaining Magners Celtic League fixtures at Ospreys (May 2] and Llanelli (May 9]."
Robertson, who has had to be content with a couple of club outings at Melrose in addition to an Edinburgh back-up squad game, certainly has an outstanding rugby pedigree as the son of 1984 Grand Slam winner, Keith. In his own right, Robertson was credited with the best try of 2006 which he scored for Scottish Clubs against Ireland Clubs.
But the winger insists it took a year out playing in Australia as a teenager to convince him to take rugby seriously.
"I was always mad-keen as a youngster then fell away from rugby. A year playing in Australia revived my interest."
