THE head of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo is set to scour the globe to find acts for this year's extravaganza – with sexy Brazil among the countries with acts to be checked out.
Major General Euan Loudon will start his trip in Delhi, where he hopes to meet a regimental band forced to pull out of the showpiece event three years ago.
General Loudon, the show's producer, will set off on Sunday.
He said: "First stop will
be Delhi. India was to send a regimental band three years ago. They had to call off at the last minute, but now they have for us a band of 45 musicians and dancers. From India I'll fly on to Sydney to confirm that the Australians will be here and then on to New Zealand to organise something for 2010."
A female pipes and drums band from Singapore are among the acts set to perform on the Castle Esplanade this year. General Loudon said he hoped to confirm further acts for both next year and 2010.
"I'll be in Washington, hoping to clinch the super-slick US Marine Corps band for 2010.
"The Chilean Air Force boasts an excellent brass band and I'll be in Brazil to check out their military bands and other acts that would be brand new to our programme.
"I doubt if the Tattoo would particularly want to 'sex up' the Esplanade with beauties from the Copacabana beach or from the famous carnival. But Brazil is new territory for us and I'll see what they have to offer."
The Edinburgh Military Tattoo takes place from August 1-23.
