RUNNERS preparing for the Edinburgh Marathon have been advised to reduce the amount of miles being run in training, to make sure they are in good shape for the race.
More than 12,500 runners have signed up to take part in this year's marathon, making it the biggest ever held in the Capital. The event on Sunday, May 25, is expected to raise more than £3 million for charity as well as provide a £3m boost for the local economy.

The weekly training mileage should be cut by 30 per cent this week and 50 per cent next week. Runners have also been advised not to go too fast in training, but to practise their marathon pace. On the day before the race, they should get as much rest as possible.
