EDINBURGH Castle has been voted Scotland's favourite landmark in a poll to commemorate a famous engineer.
The survey to mark Isambard Kingdom Brunel's birthday saw the Castle beat off the likes of the Forth Bridge, the Wallace Monument and Ben Nevis.

On a UK-wide basis, it came fourth behind Big Ben, Stonehenge and the London Eye. It was Scotland's only top ten entry.

The survey was carried out by Faithful and Gould – a project and cost management consultancy.

George Murray, of Faithful and Gould Scotland, said: "Scots are hugely proud of the environment around them. Let's hope that new landmarks continue to emerge for Scots and the rest of the world to be passionate about."

#1 You have a very naive outlook on the world. I'm from Edinburgh (I very much doubt you are!) and I can clearly see how parochial the EEN is. In some parts it should be but you'll find similar stories to these printed right across the UK in the local papers. It's what local papers do, they talk up their towns. All you seem concerned with is playing daily tag with some board-spamming loser

I agree wholeheartedly with #2, Annoyingboi. The only people that either believe or enjoy the daily $hite in this paper (or others like it) are child-like lackwits, who receive a little validation in their empty lives from the "bigging up" of their locality... as though that somehow reflects well on them!

This is a great city, but the castle is overpriced and you can't see nearly enough of it. Apart from anything else, Stirling Castle is far better.

Ah! The Faithful and Gould – a project and cost management consultancy, free advertising story! Does the castle get a prize from George Murray, of Faithful and Gould Scotland?
Would you like that up the "chutney" sir?
