A YOUNG mum is considering giving up smoking – after her toddler son locked her out of her own home while she had a sneaky cigarette.
Clare Rose, 19, found herself stranded outside her ground-floor flat as she popped out for a late night smoke.

Her 20-month-old son Leon toddled to the front door and locked it tight.

Ms Rose, from Tranent, East Lothian, had to call the fire brigade to wrench open the door and the six firemen reunited her with her distraught son.

Ms Rose said: "I'd just nipped out for a quick cigarette about 10pm when I heard the lock turning on my door.

"I looked through the letterbox and Leon was just standing there smiling at me. I ran to the back door, but it was locked too. I was so anxious, and as I started to panic, Leon became hysterical.

"He must have heard me nipping out and got up to see what the noise was.

"I'm seriously thinking of giving up smoking, because I can't go through anything like that again. Anything could have happened to him."

David McIntosh, acting watch manager, said: "The wee boy was crying through the letterbox, but he calmed down once we got the door open."

I dont know whats worse, a 20 month old kid toddling round a flat by himself whilst his mum smokes or the fact that he's now tarnished with the name Leon.....this country !!!

#3 thats a terrible thing to say. Comparing 2 well-off upper middle class professionals with a teenage single mum who smokes. Different rules surely?

#6 You got it, at last someone did. Front door, to a taverna (only 150 yards away). No comparison really.

Fag at her own front door whilst son slept. How many of us have put done the same (not me, dont smoke) or put rubbish out etc and nothing happened.

This thing happens nightly the lengtha nd breadth of the country.

Give her a break.

For God's sake you would all moan if she smoked in the house! She went to her front door for a fag - so what? None of you have left a tot for a couple of minutes to make a cup of tea or go to the toilet? To compare this to the McCann's is totally ridiculous.

Why was a 20 month baby left to go around on his own at 10pm! Should be in bed!
