OFFICIALS from Hearts and Hibs asked the city council how much it would cost to hold a Scottish Cup victory parade this year, according to documents released today.
The e-mails, made available under the freedom of information act, reveal that the local authority responded in November 2007, before either club had taken part in this year's competition. The 2008 final will be contested between Rangers and Queen of the South.

An official from the council told Hibs chiefs: "The CIS Cup parade for one day cost £17,435 in total. This included a legal cost of £1300 to advertise a legal temporary traffic regulation order.

"For a Hibernian Scottish Cup parade, we estimate that the cost would be around £46,000."

Hearts were quoted the same figure, and told: "We will look to recover the costs of any parade."

An open-top bus parade was held for Hearts after their 2005/06 Scottish Cup victory, and for Hibs after winning the 2007 CIS Cup.

Now what is that line all about? Two teams ask what the costs would be, so one would assume that they are factoring costs.
One team is given the cost, the other threatened that the council will persue cost recovery.

Either bad reporting or someone has an agenda.

For too long, football clubs have had a free ride from the public bodies that have to facilitate their commercial activities. The police, ambulance and fire services all now charge for providing services to football clubs, however some clubs have a dodgy record when it comes to payment. That's all this is about. thje council, quite rightly, expect payment for faciluitating a parade, and, quite rightly make clear that they expect to be paid.

One wonders if it costs as much for the council to host the James Connelly march on each occasion it happens? The orange walks seem to take place with a couple of police vans following whereas the 'JC' requires more police, barriers etc than the G8.
