MORE than three quarters of council houses are now being let through the EdIndex system.
The system, which involves registered social landlords, was set up in 2003 to create a simplified route into council housing and a co-ordinated provision of information and advice.

Since last September, a new choice-based system has been used by Link, Cairn, Viewpoint and Castlerock Edinvar Housing Associations, which has helped to increase demand for all properties, including difficult to let ones, and led to a reduction in the number of long-term empty homes.

Councillor Paul Edie, the city's housing leader, said: "EdIndex is now one of the largest and most successful Common Housing Registers in the UK.

"It is testament to the capabilities of the choice system that so many registered social landlords are now choosing to let their properties through it."
