What a nerve Eric Milligan has to lecture anyone about snobbery! Associates with Boroughmuir even though he went to Tynecastle, insisted on a police driver to whisk him through to Ibrox for a Hearts game, leeches onto rugby when its fitba' that he really likes, mooches trips to Paris (with the polis pipe band to mingle in the corporate areas - yes, its still alcohol free in the peasants area where the rest of us have to go!!), couldn't move away quickly enough from Gorgie to Hailes (or is that Craiglockhart, Eric?).

no. 4 - that is not the point! I agree Gorgie has gone downhill in recent years but at the end of the day the new Sainsburys is situated on Gorgie Road not in Murrayfield. Shocking - its downright snobbery right enough.

I suppose technically it's not on Gorgie Road: its main entrance is on the Murrayfield side. The GR entrance is kind of strategically hidden....

I think you are remembering the old Gorgie with rose-tinted spectacles on!

Gorgie is a far nicer community than it ever was. A few of the wee shops have closed, but that was only to be expected with the increased number of local supermarkets and out of town shopping malls.

Sainsbury's have exposed themselves as snobs with the naming of this store.

Who cares about a name!! Just be glad you have a nice new shiny supermarket on your doorstep and quit your whinging!! Or is Sainsburys too upmarket for you and you were wishing it was a Lidl, Asda or Aldi?

You've hit the nail on the head #9.

Inverse snobbery is clearly alive and well in Gorgie.

Some people are scared by new, shiny, aspirational things. You get the feeling that some people, especially Scots, are at their happiest when trying to drag everyone down, so that the lowest common denominator prevails.

I have to say that once again, I've enjoyed reading the comments on this story more than the story itself.

Best post for me was #2 calum - the word "mooches" clinched the prize. I reckon "Gorgie resident Eric Milligan" will be scunnered at that one for sure.

Wonder how confident the Romanovs and Lopez's are of attracting a 5* company to run their pokey wee bed&breakfast, attached to a football stadium??? Hmm nice and peaceful, and not-at-all fragrant thanks to the hops from the brewery and the smells from the home support.

don't know why people can't just think of being people without judging others where they stay.

People on the right side are the more 'normal' while some others who think they are one above because they live in murrayfield and morningside etc think they are above everyone else.

This location used to be a quiet area - then B&Q shut down - and gay bashings dramatically increased - the police presence did not increase. Unfortunately the area is now out of control. Roll on the next election and get these wasters out and get in folk that are prepared to sort out this problem with force.

Also now I cant run from those damn chip throwing kids as I can't can't cross the junction due to car drivers blocking the junction. My friend is a bus driver and he tells me that not only do they get done by the police, the company then gives them a final written warning. Bus drivers get punished twice, unlike car drivers who more frequently carry out this offence and get off scot free.

No surprises here - how many times do I have to say that the youth of today are evil - this is further proof? And the majority of it is down to do-gooders

I've phoned the police but ...

I find some aspects of Gorgie quite crap. Stratfords Bar always has Barflies hangin around outside. Scotmid is a crap store, overpriced and they can't seem to put their ample staff onto tills, instead they hang about while the customer has to queue. At the kiosk the wifey on the till chats to other wifeys while the queue grows.
Gorgie should welcome another store with some quality and should also welcome the employment opportunities. Eric Milligan should think about what effect his words have, instead of trying to raise his own profile with what he thinks is a popular view. All he has done is focus attention on the fact that Gorgie is not very nice and further lower the self image that Gorgoils have of themselves. The good thing about Gorgie is that foreigners are moving in, diluting the Gorgoils.

Has anyone that has issues with them calling it the Murrayfield Sainsbury's actually seen the shop?! The front of store and carpark are in Murrayfield, it's practically facing the main entrance into the stadium!

Well, the Maroon Ballon is at it again - I must remember his comments above next time he's speaking as a Councillor on issues concerning Murrayfield Stadium. His Ward is on the wrong side of the tracks and is Gorgie/Sighthill. Funny thing is, he's so proud of Gorgie that he stays outside of his own Ward at Kingsknowe, "nae doot in a bocht hoose".
Milligan is a publicity seeking, opportunistic chancer who would turn up to open a bag of chips if he thought he would get publicity or there was something in it for him. Eric, if you're "so proud of Westfield", why don't you do something about the drugs, housing and poverty issues there instead of always trying to get your neb in the paper. Away and do some work for your constituents for a change!

Well, it could be called Sainsbury's Pochle - but most non-native speakers wouldn't understand. Or, it could be called Sainsbury's Pantaloon - but folk might think its a clothing shop.

In no way is this Murrayfield. If you actually look at a map, Murrayfield is located on the other side of the Corstorphine Road. It's stretching thinds to even say that the rugby stadium is in Murrayfield.

As it says correctly in the article, Sainsburys is located in Westfield which is part of Gorgie. Anybody living there will tell you that.

If not Gorgie, it's ROSEBURN. End of debate. Westfield is a road and not an area, and Murrayfield is about half a mile away.

Sorry, not end of debate. Westfield is a Street and an Avenue as well as being a Road.

You are correct though. Murrayfield is half a mile away and Roseburn is nearer. But Roseburn finishes at the railway line.

I'm surprised they didn't try calling it "Sainsburys Ravelston". Sounds even more prestigious.
