HUNDREDS of city residents were left without running water after a faulty valve brought disruption to supplies for parts of the Capital.
Areas of Leith were affected by the problem, which led to taps running dry yesterday morning.

Leith resident Donald McGlynn, 83, criticised Scottish Water for the way the company had handled the disruption.

He said: "The water went off at about 11.45am. I tried to get through to Scottish Water, but all I got was an answer phone message. They've done nothing at all, there isn't even any bottled water laid on – it's ludicrous."

Wendy Allen, 39, a worker at The Leith Walk Cafe, said hot water smelling of burnt rubber had been coming from the cafe's cold taps.

A Scottish Water spokesman apologised and said the problem had been confined to the EH6 and EH7 postcode areas.

The supplies were restored by mid-afternoon.

I suspect most Leithers would be blissfully unaware if their water was cut off for a month!

I was delighted the water was cut of as the boss at my local could not water down the Lager.

Oh dear.... No water for just a few hours and people can hardly cope. Mr McGlynn, you are complaining that you didn't get bottled water...? Did you live through the war? Scottish Water should hardly be expected to supply bottled water for such a short cut in supplies.

People really are so soft these days. Even I remember power cuts in the 70's. We just got on with it... I think some people need to get real!

Why are they complaining? They don't bathe much in Leith
and they certainly don't drink the stuff, not straight out of the tap, more likely mixed with some fermentation product.
