MONEY seized from criminals is to be used to launch a new youth football project in Leith tonight.
The scheme, known as the Midnight League, is an extension to an already running project which has been credited with cutting youth disorder in the city.
Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said: "Street Football and Midnight League initiatives, like the one in Leith, will be taking place all over the country during the school holidays, giving thousands of youngsters the chance to have fun and make new friends, while staying out of trouble."
The project will take place on Friday nights at Leith Academy throughout the summer and the winning team from the ten-week initiative will then be entered into a national contest.
Police in Leith say a portable football pitch, which travels to various locations in the area, has helped cut crime in recent months.
Tonight's event begins at 7.30pm.
