EDINBURGH is the top city for recycling, with 71 per cent of residents recycling each week, according to a new survey.
The online poll found that single men living alone were best at recycling, while families with children under five were worst.

Schools are taking a leading role in teaching children about the environment, with many more over-fives convincing their families to recycle.

Kitchen company Magnet questioned 2225 people in their poll.

They found Edinburgh residents were the most environmentally friendly, followed by Manchester and London. Birmingham came bottom of the poll, with only 34 per cent recycling each week.

Eric you should try telling the whole story. The gallery was Scotlands number one FREE tourist attraction. If you pay, then once again Edinburgh Castle remains Scotlands number one tourist destination. So your right, well done, Edinburgh.

Yes, my nextdoor neighbour obviously failed to spot that combined the Edinburgh attractions easilu outnumber any other Scottish city's combined attractions, reflecting the fact that Edinburgh has eight times the number of visitors as Glasgow. Kelvingrove is full of local school kids whose teachers are not imaginative to take them out the G postcode area on school trips. Edinburgh Castle has far more international visitors - the ones that count and the ones who bring something important to the economy.
Lest we forget, Blackpool Pleasure Beach is usually the UK top visitor attraction. Blackpool: more important as a tourist detsination than London? I think not!!
Meanwhile, back in the real world, South Lanarkshire salutes the good people of Edinburgh for being the environment-conscious people they are. Others cities in Scotland are far too wasteful and need to learn a lesson from the capital.
