MORE than 3600 children in Edinburgh are now benefiting from child maintenance payments, according to the latest figures.
The Child Support Agency (CSA) collected just over £4.6 million in the Capital in the year April 2007 to March 2008, up £86,000 on the previous 12 months.

Across Scotland, the CSA collected or arranged a record £1 billion in 2007/08. Since March 2005, when it was overhauled, the body has collected an extra £232m in Scotland, supporting an extra 11,400 youngsters.

In West Lothian in 2007/08, £3.7m was collected, supporting 2530 children. In Midlothian, the figure was £1.6m supporting 1180 children, and in East Lothian £1.3m and 880 children.

CSA Minister James Plaskitt said: "It is excellent news that we are getting more money to more children in Scotland."
