THE weather wreaked havoc across the Lothians, flooding homes and streets and even closing one of the city's major tourist attractions.
Bosses at Our Dynamic Earth on Holyrood Road decided to close the centre's doors for health and safety reasons after water leaked into the building.
Some "cosmetic damage" was caused but it was able to re-open later in the day. One gallery was se
t to remain closed to allow for some equipment to be repaired.
Around ten houses in Musselburgh's Brunstane Mill Road suffered flooding after the Figgate Burn burst its banks. Firefighters were called out to pump away water.
Fire crews were also diverted to attend several false alarms after the heavy rain set off alarm systems throughout the Lothians, while crews also rescued a 42-year-old man from a caravan in Cousland, near Dalkeith.
Meanwhile, a flood defence wall safeguarding houses in Oxgangs from rising water levels was blamed for "lakes of water" found in peoples' gardens.
One resident, Paul Curran, said at one stage more than a foot of water was in his garden, and it had to be pumped away from his doorstep before it lapped over into his home.
"Residents are up in arms about this," he said. "We told them a year ago when it was built that this would possibly happen.
A council spokesman said: We think that exceptional rain means that the sewerage system wasn't able to cope and that's what caused the flooding there."
Flood warnings were issued on all of the Lothian's main rivers and burns during the downpour, but the all clear was signalled late yesterday afternoon after water levels began to steadily fall.
