A CAMPAIGN has been launched to encourage shoppers to choose local retailers and revitalise town centres.
East Lothian Council has developed a marketing plan with local shopkeepers aimed at reversing a drop in town centre trade.

This includes a new loyalty card and voucher scheme, where customers who use five local shops in a week can be entered into a prize draw to win shopping vouchers.

Shops will display posters and be listed on the council's website. Council leader Dave Berry said: "The small to medium business retail sector is an important part of the mix which attracts visitors to East Lothian and underpins our residents' high quality of life."

"It is important that their council invests in our town centres to develop the variety and choice of specialist shops."

Great One...

Bit of the old Case, the Horse has bolted.

Bit too late, considering how the old and New East Lothian Council have let TESCO's, ASDA etc build large shop (a number out of the Town Centres).

They Come , The Little shops Close

Wait Until the New TESCO in Musselburgh opens, Double the size of the old one.
Theres already a high number of empty shops on the High Street.

Haddington could be next if Sainsburys and TESCOs get there way.

Agree with comment above - wish one could buy everything locally - but the choice is just not there and certainly not in Musselburgh High Street - although the fruit and veg shop has lovely honey and eggs and the wine merchant in North High Street has a good selection of drinks and special cheese and we still have Fords the Baker. The new Tesco will finish these off, I fear.

Give me an out of town shopping centre any day.

At least you can get what you want a bit easier and it costs much less to boot.

Small local shops are a waste of time.
