THE news that Edinburgh is the loneliest city in Britain got you talking, as did the Forth Road Bridge and cuts at schools.

A university study has found that the Capital is worst for people feeling lonely. You certainly weren't alone in voicing your opinions on the revelation.

A place is what you make it, if you want to go out and get involved in your community that's good, in a city there is something for everyone, to suit all tastes. In smaller places it tends to be a bit more cliquey and groups tend to revolve round churches, mums and tots and not much for adults or teens.

Well, I am quite surprised by that – I thought Edinburgh was one of the best cities to live in! There is certainly always things going on to give you the opportunity of meeting people (music, festivals, sports etc) I know folk that have made Edinburgh their home from abroad, after living in London first – and they love it here!

Here's a suggestion for why the research found the city worst for feeling alone.

I know several people in Edinburgh who are very lonely. Part of their problem is they have very poor social skills. They often break burp, quite loudly, in front of relative strangers, without attempting to cover their mouth, or talk about delicate medical conditions. Either that, or they're plugged into their iPod and spend the whole time staring at their shoes and emitting occasional gurgling noises.

Perhaps more worrying for EN towers is the loneliness factor that afflicts Holyrood.

Seems strange that Holyrood is the loneliest place in Edinburgh, has it got anything to do with the proximity to the Parliament?

Yes, it's definitely the Parliament rather than our building. Anyway, moving on, an ex-FETA chair called for the Forth Road Bridge replacement to be scrapped which was met with support in the world of the web.

It is good that the misinformation about the "replacement" Forth Road Bridge from the Scottish Government has finally been nailed. If, as it looks that it can – and it has been done before elsewhere in the world – the bridge can be repaired at a far lower cost, then it makes no sense to build an additional bridge which would make a nonsense of the government's climate change targets and transport policy objectives.

Many people have been saying this for a long time. There are hundreds of more worthwhile things we could do with that money. Like investing in the railways for example.

At some point we will need a new bridge, so let's get it built. Then we can benefit from two bridges for a while!!

And finally, schools across the city face yet more cuts to their budgets, which led to this pearl of a rant.

Perhaps if we just shut the schools and sold them off, then the council would have enough money to buy Jenny Dawe some nice new robes, take all the councillors on a well earned holiday to India, and still have money to fund Councillor MacLaren's heroic, single-handed attempt to boost the city's taxi trade.
