Call to give up bags for Lent

SCOTS are being urged to cut down on plastic bags instead of chocolate this Lent.
News presenter Sally Magnusson has teamed up with anti-poverty agency Tearfund. Instead of cutting out treats such as chocolate, people are being asked to reduce their carbon emissions.

Tips for saving energy include snubbing plastic bags at the supermarket.

The assistant at Asda on my last visit was so reluctant to hand out bags that I left her with my goods and went to Morrisons. I know that North Berwick has a problem with residents tipping plastic bags in the street but in Gullane we re-use them for trash.
