Elderly couple 'prisoners in own home'

AN elderly couple say they have spent more than six months as prisoners in their own home after the city council failed to build them a wheelchair ramp.
Archie Donald, 79, asked for the ramp to be built to enable him to take his wheelchair-bound wife Agnes, 85, outside.
The council had made the couple's case a top priority in August but have failed to take action.
He said: "I want to take her out of the house. She hasn't been out since August and the only break I get is going for the messages."
A city council spokeswoman said: "Unfortunately her house is unsuitable for adaptations and we are arranging to meet to discuss their housing options."
