Hearts stars strut stuff for cancer charity

Published Date: 10 April 2008
AFTER a long and difficult season they could be forgiven for wanting to enjoy a beer or two with their teammates.
But instead of putting their feet up, Hearts stars Robbie Neilson, Christophe Berra and Michael Stewart (pictured below with Lauren Quinn) will dash from their final league game against Gretna at Fir Park in Motherwell straight to the catwalk.

The trio are due to strut their stuff in kilts as part of a fashion show being organised by a young Edinburgh woman in aid of Cancer Research. Lauren Quinn, 20, hopes to collect £10,000 after losing her grandfather to lung cancer in November.

Norman Crichton, the father of well-known football physio Kenny, who has worked with Falkirk, Gretna and Queen of the South, died of lung cancer at the age of 70. Now defender Neilson, midfielder Stewart and club captain Berra are among those hoping to raise funds for research into the disease by taking part in the fashion show at Scottish Widows' Dalkeith Road offices.

Neilson, who is the Tynecastle club's longest serving player, said he hoped to get some more teammates involved in the event – despite it being on the final day of the season. He said: "It should be a good night and hopefully we can raise some money for charity.

"I'm looking forward to it and hopefully we can get some of the other guys involved. I think there will be a few that would love to get out on the catwalk."

Lauren, a receptionist for Scottish Widows, who has herself modelled at Harvey Nichols, has already raised £3500 by selling tickets for the May 17 event.

The date is her grandfather's birthday and a year to the day since he told family members of his cancer.

She said: "I was very close to my grandad and we're very close as a family. It was just the worst time. We went through hell. We approached the players through my uncle, who is a physio at Falkirk. They were happy to help."

The fashion show will see male and female models wear a series of outfits dating from the 1930s to the present day. The Hearts players are expected to be modelling kilts.

Richard Cowie, area volunteer manager for Cancer Research UK said: "We currently spend more than £6 million each year in Edinburgh alone on ground-breaking research. This vital research would not be possible without the support and generosity of people like Lauren."

Anyone wishing to donate money can contact Lauren at charityfashionshow@live.co.uk.

Wonder why Lauren asked Berra, Neilson and Stewart. Presumably because she thought they were the best looking.
Make it more interesting, get the ugliest Hibs and Hearts players in living memory to strut thier stuff.
Kicking of with the clear winner, Benny Brazil.
Further suggestions please.

Well done Riley, after Mixu's comments showing some humility and respect up there you have just stolen his mantle for good as the most ignorant poster since Eddie_Malofeev... You must be proud.

See already your giving him his jollies.
Now he'll come back with something putrid and antagonistic. All he wants is the hook of a response.
I would never communicate with such a goon.
Id get a better conversation in the secure unit of the Andrew Duncan clinic.

#5 How about this?
And next up, strutting his stuff we have former Hearts legend- Gordan Petric, modelling a stuuning vampiric ensemble encompassing a lovely velvet cape and top hat.
Gordan has taken the time out from his post footballing occupation of 'answering the door to a trannsylvanian castle' to be with us today!

He has had 4 in three days!... When he logs on under yet another later today that will be five... Thats better than a goal a game striker.

he loves to be abused from all sides but even after the scathing attentions of DublinHibs and a few other hibees yesterday he still only had a b*nk-on for the jamboos... He even tried to pally up to Dubs on the other thread after him calling him a kappa-wearing, rat sh*gging, etc, etc (Dublin does that one better than me)... the guy is cracked!

I really really cannot believe that some posters here are turning this into another evening news trash thread.

Makes me sick of the insensitivity in society these days.

pepper,

Sorry for any part i played. i worked for CRUK labs and now work for an affiliate, my mum used to collect for them and I know people who have been taken along with the one in three others who's lives are destroyed by cancer in this country, it was not my intention to offend but i saw red at SPL's inflamatory comments and as such by biting probably helped turn it into what you rightly called a trash thread... Again sorry for any offense on my part.

Whats the script?,

Well done to all involved. Great cause and hope it raises tonnes.
Maybe the headcases who are tyrying to turn this into the usual anti-Hearts forum should realise there is more to life & society than football. eh Muchados (or whatever)

Life is most certainly not fair. My godfather and dads best pal, (a great hibby by the way), died from this disease but three weeks ago.
There are however two sides to this story. Footballers and the catwalk/ vanity/ ugliness etc, which might be worth a laugh or two.
Nobodys laughing at cancer.
