PIZZA chain Domino's said today that internet sales surged 17.6 per cent over the festive period.
Domino's said online takeaway orders rocketed by 102 per cent in the six weeks to December 30 and "made a significant contribution" to the Christmas boost in sales.

The company – which has five of its 501 outlets in Edinburgh and one in Musselburgh – said full-year profits would be ahead of market forecasts after like-for-like sales jumped 14.7 per cent over 2007. New products, such as its ciabatta pizza, helped drive the full-year growth.

Total online sales for the 52 weeks ended December 30, 2007 were 60.5 per cent up on the prior year and reached £32.2 million.

Chris Moore, who became Domino's chief executive on Hogmanay, said: "Our strong sales performance was fuelled by the strong marketing of innovative new products, continual improvement in customer service times and superior quality."

He said the company had a goal of 1000 stores and that the company was "confident" that the firm will deliver full year 2007 profits ahead of current City expectations, which are currently around £17.5m.
