BRITISH Airways is "up to its neck" in crisis due to rising fuel prices, its chairman warned yesterday.
Martin Broughton told the company's annual meeting that he could not to commit to paying out a dividend for the year to March 2009, warning that BA was, "up to its neck in perhaps the biggest crisis the aviation industry has ever known".

The company's fuel expenditure has risen to over £3 billion this year from just over £2 billion last year.

Previous plans to increase capacity by 2.8 per cent this year have now been dropped, with winter capacity to be down by as much as 5 per cent.

Chief executive Willie Walsh sought to quell concerns that job cuts were inevitable.

All these recent fuel surcharges levied on passengers and it's in crisis? One would imagine the crisis is caused by it's refusal to fly long haul from the regions. Feeder flights to London incur more expense
for passengers and is it no wonder they are being shunned in favour of airlines who fly long haul direct.

And too many of the companies 'Big Wigs' are chummy with politicians and those back handers are expensive now... Another Billion on the fuel bill. Bet Broon and his mates are laughing all the way to Lewis's with their latest shopping lists funded by all that extra duty...

They'll wait until they file for bankruptcy then offer a huge rescue package funded by the interest made on the fuel duty.

Get off the plane - Get on the train.

Aviation should concentrate on what it can do well and close its short hope flights.

and Yes where economical they should operate LONG DISTANCE from regional airports.
