A CARE worker who used a webcam to perform a sex act in front of a 14-year-old girl has avoided a jail sentence.
Norman Moyes, 35, exposed himself and performed a sex act after chatting to the girl online.
At Edinburgh Sheriff Court today, Moyes was given a three-year probation order after earlier admitting that he showed his victim graphic live video of him
self.
The girl's mum said the sentence was "no punishment at all," adding that her daughter would be a "bag of nerves" every time she sees Moyes walking the streets.
She said: "I'm shocked, how the hell can he not be jailed? That is no punishment at all, people like him should not be on the street – I just can't believe it.
"My daughter has seen him in the street a couple of times but she hoped he would go to jail, every time she sees him, she comes back shaking and is a bag of nerves."
The court had heard how Moyes got talking to the young girl on MSN messenger, a popular instant messaging service on the internet.
Moyes began speaking to the girl through the instant messenger, typing messages and also using webcams to talk.
But the conversation became sexual in nature and Moyes stood naked in front of the webcam.
Moyes – who has since been suspended from his work – then used the digital video camera to perform a sex act in front of the teenager.
The girl took a picture of him and told her mum, who immediately called in police.
Moyes admitted to police that he had shown her his private parts, but claimed it was an accident.
Sheriff Graeme Warner told Moyes, of Barn Park Crescent, Edinburgh, that he will have to allow his probation officer access to any communications he makes during the next three years.
