Drink figures get even worse
SCOTS are drinking even more heavily than originally believed, the Scottish Government has warned.
Figures on alcohol consumption have been revised after it emerged the number of units per drink had been underestimated.
People are not only drinking more heavily than ever, they are choosing stronger drinks.
Recalculated figures from the 2003 Scottish Health Survey show that 34 per cent of men and 23 per cent of women drink too much.
Two in five men and a third of women are "binge drinking" at least double the recommended daily intake – four units for men and three units for women – on their heaviest drinking day.
