A BRITISH soldier has been killed in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence said.
The soldier, from 1st Battalion (The Rifles), died from injuries after an exchange of fire while on a joint UK and Afghan National Army patrol in Helmand Province. He was due to be named later today.

MoD spokesman Commander Paula Rowe said: "The pain and sense of loss at the death of this brave soldier will be deeply felt by his family, friends and all those who served with him."
