HIBS boss Mixu Paatelainen will sit down for a heart-to-heart with Alan O'Brien today before deciding if the Republic of Ireland winger will play in tomorrow's crunch SPL clash with Aberdeen.
The flying winger was forced to limp out of the action as Hibs dumped Capital rivals Hearts last weekend with a hamstring injury and has been receiving intensive treatment since.

O'Brien is desperate to play as Hibs aim to claim a third consecutive win, cut the gap between themselves and the Dons to just one point and strengthen their grip on a top-six finish.

But Paatelainen is determined not to allow O'Brien's heart to rule his head, insisting there is still a doubt over his fitness and adamant he won't take any risks.

He said: "There is a question mark. He's been improving all week but he had to come off because of a hamstring problem and we don't want to run the risk of losing him for a number of matches.

"Alan has done well, his pace always troubles the opposition and I like a quick player, like anyone else, in those one-to-one situations.

"It's touch and go. I'll see how he trains today, talk to him and then make a decision."

The visit of the Dons marks the start of a run of four decisive games for Hibs as they battle with Aberdeen, Dundee United and Motherwell for one of three places in the top six, Paatelainen well aware the Pittodrie side will arrive in Edinburgh determined to bounce back from their shock Homecoming Scottish Cup defeat by First Division Dunfermline in midweek.

Manager Jimmy Calderwood and his players have been on the receiving end since losing in a penalty shoot-out to the Pars but, according to Paatelainen who was at the match, that will make them even more dangerous opponents.

He said: "It will be a very difficult match, Aberdeen have a good midfield, excellent players everywhere and lots of pace. They'll be anxious to come here and prove the criticism they are getting is wrong but we have to concentrate on what we do.

"We have to maintain the standards of the last couple of games and while I've been pleased with the matches results-wise, there is always room for improvement."

What has also satisfied Paatelainen is the three successive shut-outs notched by his side which had built itself an unwanted reputation for gifting the opposition goals through unforced errors.

Although Sol Bamba, suspended tomorrow after being sent off against Hearts, did make such a mistake during the derby, Paatelainen put the fact that Jambos striker Christian Nade didn't capitalise down to good goalkeeping by Grzegorz Szamotulski.

He said: "Grzegorz had done fantastically well but it is down to the whole team. We've been 1-0 ahead in other games and because of stupid mistakes we have drawn them rather than won and the points lost has made all the difference.

"But we've defended well recently and we will have to do so tomorrow. A 1-0 win is a fantastic victory and, to be honest, I don't care how we do it as long as we win, that's the bottom line."

Hibs have the chance to open up a five point lead at the top of the SPL Under-19 League when they face Kilmarnock at the club's East Mains Training Centre tomorrow, kick-off 11.30 am.

so, one ok game out of how many? Even I would have one decent game eventually if i played enough matches.

He is rubbish - the vast majority of his 'contributions' during a game consist of running into the player in front of him and losing possession or passing straight to the opposition, usually without looking.

Yantorno, anyone?

Road-runner is gash.

Meet-meet!

Aberdeen were truely awful against Dunfermline, if Hobos cant beat them then you can forget Europe. Bottom 6 I feel along with similar teams like Hamilton, Falkirk etc LOW-BEES

Most worrying comment from Mixu here is:

"A 1-0 win is a fantastic victory and, to be honest, I don't care how we do it as long as we win, that's the bottom line."

The above could be a direct quote from any Hearts manager over the last 100 years.

It does matter to Hibs fans how you win Mixu, which is why the fans are staying way from ER in numbers.

Alex McLeish, Tony M, Eddie Turnbull didnt win every game, but they played the game the way Hibs fans want to see it, a style borne from the Famous 5 era.

You dont do either Mixu. Please Leave.

Great Player, clueless manager!

Let me echo what the vast majority of Hibs fans think including Mr Totalano here

O'Brien is BRUTAL, a waste of a jersey, a watse of a wage, a waste of time, the lad has no end product to his undoubted pace. 1 or 2 good games in 40 does not make him a player.

If Mixu likes him that much he sjhould take him back to Cowdenbeath, that is both of thier levels

8. Agreed, he's a chump and a Blobby mk2. "If you want entertainment go to the cinema" was Blobby's philosophy, and Mixup's.

#8 I'll concede that '1-0' was typical Craig Levein, but no other recent Hearts manager in recent times.

Happy to quote all our recent 4-0, 4-1, 5-1 derby victories

I must be on the wrong forum, everyone singing from the same hymn book and no idiots? well, just one @ #4!

Q. We all know O'B is gash, why can't Mixu see this?
A. Mixu is not up to the job!
Q. We all know Mixu is gash, why can't Petrie see this?
A. It would cost us money, forget the cash and get rid!
Q. we all know Petrie has a tight gash and is now damaging the footballing side, why can't Farmer see this?
A. Not really interested.

Is there not something in the constitution for chairmen of Hibs? I am sure they have to step down after a number of years or something? a bit like being president of the USA, after a certain time in "office" they need to step down?

Mixu, it was not the Monk that saved us at Bamba's mistake, it was Nade.
We all know anyone else would have scored a goal, why can't Mixu see this?
Fair enough, Mixu must put positive spin on everything but FFS, he does not have to make Nade sound good.

I'll explain it to you with 2 classic examples.

Lets look at the Derbies first of all.

Our biggest victory against you in recent years was 6-2 and yours against us was 5-1.

Take a look at the DVD's of both games (I have), and look at the contrasting styles of how those victories were achieved. Alex McLeish (even though he had left Hibs by the time of the Hearts victory and was with Rangers) even took the time out to comment on this.

Secondly, lets look at our most recent cup wins.

Again, look at the way / style Hibs win over top six SPL side Kilmarnock was achieved against the way / style your win over first division side, now no longer in existence Gretna was achieved.

If you cant see the difference mate, then that is why you are a "win at all costs and everthing is ok" Jambo, and I am a Hibs fan.

If you can see the difference..........then I'll see you at Easter Road on Saturday although on second thoughts, you might want to postpone that until Mixu is axed.

;-)

I thought all the Heart of Lithuania were all too busy bleating about Mr Salmonds concerns over the club he supports to be on here blethering about Hibernian FC.

Totter off now and play politicians for a while, add it to the list of proffessions that you all excel at, Economist, Accountant, Politician (of course Vlad will be PM soon.

Now back to reality chappies and the mundanity of stacking shelves at tesco, flipping burgers, and sooking of old men in Public toilets.

How can Heart Of Madlithuanian have keeping Gorgie uglee since 1874, since the Russian owner has only been around since 2006?????

And as far as Salmond is concerned, someone's personal opinion is nothing to do with HMFC

Or have you forgotten that he isn't Lithuanaian?

Monkey sht for brains pal, you really are an idiot.

"Pride of Edinburgh since 1875," the soccer team last won a Scottish Cup, the national cup competition of Scotland, in 1902.
Hibs, who have enjoyed success in many other competitions through the years, were Scottish Cup runners-up in 1914, 1923, 1924, 1947, 1958, 1972, 1979 and 2001. The club has contested at least 337 Cup games since last clinching it. Hibernian's latest elimination from the tournament came earlier this month, a 2-0 loss to cross-town rival Heart of Midlothian F.C.

Alan O'Brien????!!!!!
That probably does it for me, as far as Hibs are concerned.
I've supported them since moving to Edinburgh from Kenya in 1964, as a 12year-old. That's a lot of years and a lot of pain.
But Mixu has done that much damage, as far as I'm concerned, that if he got elbowed tomorrow, I'm not sure I would have the desire to pick up on them again.
How sad is that?

Judging by your previous posts and today's original additions, I will surmise,,,,

1. You have had some sort of lobotomy and can only function with form some sort of normality (in your own head) if it contains either a. how great hearts are, or b. how gash we are.

or

2. You are one of those people that park in disabled or parent and child parking spaces if it saves you an extra 10 yard walk (just because everyone else does it!)

or

3. Both of the above!

or

4. you are simply a plank!

Just you hang on in there mate, I was born in 64, supported Hibs from age 5, had never left or felt the need to move from within 3 miles of ER until the "Blobby years" then, many years of enjoying myself until T Mowbery brought the football back to ER.

The one thing that I missed in all those years was the pain, heartache but mostly the joy of being a HIBBIE!

As I said, hang in there, it could be worse eh! your family could have settled in fife! how gash would that have been!

The only positive thing to come out of last weeks game was the three points, the performance was comical the way in which we scored summed it up. As for O'Brien I have already posted before my concerns regarding his overall ability it just doesn’t cut with me. I would never say 'gash' but he reminds me of a player who gives 100% but never seems to achieve anything. And he's not alone sometimes the pass and move (which Mixu is trying to perfect) is diabolical. It will end up (hopefully) an average season coupled with some serious reassessment of the team for next year.

I was one of those who decried AO'B every week, however this season he has has shown a fair bit of what he is capable of. The way he controlled the (superb) pass from Rosa, and then planted it on Fletch's head (ok shoulder), was an indication of the skill he has.
Trust me when I say I thought he was a waste of space (I would berate him when he came on as a sub as he was obviously unfit), but now I feel he is a valuable player for us, especially if Rosa is also there to provide the killing passes that we know he is capable of.
Both these players have the individual skils that make up for the apparent lack of tactics the team currently seem to be going through. There are skillful players throughout the team, we just need the right tactics.

*28..Becalming words indeed, Gordon..However, I feel they have come too late...

I remember taking a hovel of a tennement top-floor flat at 131 Easter Road, whilst I was at Napier College at Sighthill in the 70's, just to be within worshipping distance of the hallowed ground. I was as loyal and fanatical a fan as any. But almost half a century of abject misery and non-achievement, crowned by this latest pantomime situation with Mixu, has left me drained of the will to go on.
Going by averages, I've another 20 years left to me. I want it to be free of the @rseache I've suffered over the years.

Footnote: I used to live not a kick in the pants from the Ugandan border with Kenya. What has por old Uganda done to deserve Blobby???? And to think Hibs had him as manager!!
