ABERDEEN have confirmed that Mark McGhee has been appointed as manager with Scott Leitch, his assistant at Motherwell, his number two.
The pair replace Jimmy Calderwood, Jimmy Nicholl and Sandy Clark, who left Pittodrie last month.

McGhee was part of the Dons side which won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1983 with a 2-1 win over Real Madrid in Gothenburg.

Dons director of football Willie Miller is delighted to be reunited with his former Pittodrie team-mate.

"The board was unanimous in the choice of Mark for our new manager, as everyone knows, these situations can be extremely delicate and you have to allow for all eventualities," he told the club's official website.

"That said, we're delighted Mark and Scott have agreed to join us and with the return of European football next month, these are exciting times here at Pittodrie.

"Mark is well known to most Aberdeen supporters and of course, having been here as a player, he also knows what the club means to them and he's itching to get started."

The new management team's first official day in charge will be Wednesday July 1 when the players report for pre-season training.

Goteborg. 11/5/1983. Ran down the left wing and crossed for John Hewitt to head in. I was in the main stand and after the game finished I had no voice left for at least 3 days.
It would be great to see them do the same again.
In those days Real Madrid was full of international stars from all over the world and Aberdeen were homegrown, mainly ex youth team players and they did it. Can happen again.
then there was Bayern Munich in the quarter final and Celtic and Rangers more times than I can remember, including 3-0 at Ibrox when I had to pretend not to be happy at the result.
