So, he's a fashion designer ...... what makes him an expert on housing then? Design is not the same as BUILT!!!

oh oh .......watch out for the turquoise and pink pathways, the lime green with hint of avocado post boxes, the jet black primary schools and banana yellow secondary school!

And I'm not sure the Edinburgh Waterfront Developers will be liking your attitude much either Wayne!

The controversial 46-year-old has begun by attacking modern Scottish homes - including the Edinburgh Waterfront, which he branded "not fit to live in".

LOL, he builds new homes in West Lothian it won't be long before they're not fit to live in. I'd think about building some your homes some other place mate.

Jakey Rowling,

Fine principals but I'll wait and see the house prices for his “fit to live in” village if he gets his way.

Whether or not he can design buildings, he's spot on regarding the development of the Waterfront. It looks like an Eastern Bloc development of the 60's or 70's, maybe developers' prescience in that our new wave of Polish, Roumanian etc workers will find them easier to fix in due course.

Learn lessons from any other new town scheme. It will fail and become cheap housing for councils to rent out. Lowering land value and creating hives for social problems such as neds and problem families.

Gentrification is the best Edinburgh can do, how about refurbish some of the houses and tenements in Dalry or easter road areas? nigh on the whole west of Edinburgh is a new town. with areas such as Broomhouse and Sighthill having all said traits of new towns. redevelop some of those areas with your money.
On the flip side of that coin, you'll create housing for only the very rich. Which then does very little for the economy as money is then spent elsewhere in the country usually.

Wayne Hemingway is right in many ways however aA new town must be just that totaly new not just more little boxes. made our of ticky tacky. Oh and yes I do know what I am talking about. I have seen and sold hundereds of houses The best example is on the west side of Brisbane a new town by the name of Springfield . House blocks are minimum of 700 sqm good transport intergrated into the townplan thisincludes golf courses schools playing fields and parks, If it is to be done for god sake do it right, Remeber sightill broom house were a;; new developments at one time as was broom hall where the houses are still like mouse traps. go to http://www.rsllotteries.com.au/lottery/main.htm and that will give you an idea of a decent size house. mind you it is a bit dear but it s on canal front land which ups the price. give it a lot of thought if you like the open spaces dont build hhouses that touch.here is another http://www.boystown.com.au/lifestyle/
Have a good day and remember:

l am at a loss for words.

So there are no developments in Scotland that Wayne would stay in? There are hundreds if not thousands of simply spectacular developments running the length and breadth of Scotland.
l for one am pretty damn proud of the way my country is looking and being a father of two young kids cannot think of a better place than Livingston, a New Town of it's own, to bring them up in.
