I would shoot Rebus myself if I thought it would be the end of these pointless fawning articles about Mr Rankin.

I would shoot Paul Voltaire myself if I thought it would be the end of his pointless egotistical nonsense.

Never mind Rebus ... I would shoot Rankin given a 12 bore shotgun ...

Well, of course I wouldn't really .... but believe me, if Hootsmon publications doesn't stop giving this character the air of constant publicity ... there's no telling how much I can take ....

For goodness sake if you don't like Rankin and Rebus then stop reading the articles and making infantile comments.

12

fred bloggs,

on my high horse 29/05/2007 16:23:13

Have you people actually read any of the Rebus books?

Ian Curtis,

I did then my doctor advised me not too.

"Tough talking"? how on earth did they come up with that description? Maybe 50 years ago but his language is not exactly tough by today's standards, sorry but it is just not realistic, attitude perhaps, maybe, but not language.

Agreed. Story lines are ok but dialogue is outdated/prissy. More McCall than Irvine. Guess who more faithfully represents the world we live in, for better or worse?
Rankin's a good writer just needs to get out more, methinks. Then my cynicism kicks in, is it audience driven? Who buys the books?

Not me!!!

It seems so strange...! Complaining about books that nobody forces you to read....(and you probably haven't read them anyway!). You've got a choice: do what you like and don't pay attention to things you don't like (instead of making comments that make you look pathetic!).
I am a big Rankin fan and I started reading his books accidentally, there is not that much publicity here in Greece...I got addicted!!! It is a matter of taste (although our choices define us) and not such a big deal. Whoever doesn't like Rebus has the option not to read the stories (oops! Nobody told you that, I guess!...Maybe it should appear in the news...I mean, since you read everything you would read that too!)

I think the complaints are more to do with the frequency of Ian Rankin 'stories¨' in this newspaper ps.

There are rather a lot of them.
