Propaganda from the Council.
"A sample" will not reflect the true position. The council will control the "sample".
But, it gives me an idea . . . . . . . . . .
It'll never work. It's doomed to fail. Bring back matrons. They're doing it all wrong. It's political correctness gone mad. Things were better in the old days.
The council could expand the idea by letting the public post pictures of bits of road that need repaired - like a forum. The council could then post up pictures of when its fixed.
This is just another New Labour gimmick to try and divert Citizens attention away from the fact that the lunar landscapes that purport to be road surfaces throughout most of the City are 99% a consequence of this Council's chronic indifference to adequately prioritise and fund roads maintenance. They are forever spinning about their successes of their "patch and go" policy but the truth is it has done nothing to adequately redress the deterioration that is prevalent due to their indifference.
The residents of Greenfield Crescent have been lodging complaints with this Council for many years about the horrendously worn-out and dangerous state of its road surface, kerb-stones, and pavements. This Council's only response is to carry out ad-hoc amateurish temporary filling of the worst potholes only! We have been complaining for years to this Council about the numerous potholes in our Street which make it look like the surface of the Moon and rather than carry out a professional re-surfacing job all they do is send some guys round who throw loose bitmac into the potholes which loosens and breaks up in next to no time thus leaving us with the same potholes over and over again! They have the audacity to advise us that the surfaces will never be permanently repaired because Greenfield Crescent is a cul-de-sac which means it has it nil priority for planned replacement under the present regime. Meanwhile we continue to suffer the highest levels of Council Tax in the city being extorted from us. No wonder residents are disillusioned and totally fed up with this Council!
Perhaps public photos of the councilers would be preferable. Biggest disasters ever
It's obvious that Edinburgh city provides a poor service and over charges. I like the initiative started in Lewisham council (London) some time ago. They have a website http://www.lovelewisham.org that members of the public can submit photos of issues to. Anything like pot-holes, broken pipes, vandalism etc are posted with a time stamp so progress can be monitored. New York City has done the same and hear that other cities are taking up the initiative as I write. We should do the same in Scotland and claim our city back with pride! Also, check out www.neighbourhoodfixit.com. this site covers the whole UK. I looked up my post code and found over 10 road faults listed. None have been repaired in over a week. No surprises there then.

Here's a radical idea.
Just fix the thing rather that take photos of it.

Good idea, Moose!
What difference will taking pictures take? I've sent a series of pictures of road and pavement defects to the council over the past five years and not one has been made good..............
Has anybody noticed the apalling state of all the manhole covers?? Through Corstorphine, into Shandwick Place, along Princes Street, down Hanover Street and then down Dundas Street about 30% of them seem to be loose. Whenever anything bigger than a car drives over them the noise is deafening. In fact I had to change my bus stop because the manhole cover rattled so noisely I felt it was detrimental to my hearing.
#7, Jack the lad,
You understand the fundamental tenet of democracy - government of the people, by the people, for the people.
British politicians do not.
Hence, if you want something done, you have to do it yourself!
This didn't cost £500,000 of public funds - it's free.http://bumpmyride.wordpress.com/
Great idea, Mandy!
I smell brown . . . . . . envelopes.
I smell brown . . . . . . . envelopes.
I used to live on York Place and that particular drain has been like that since I lived there 2 years ago.!!
what ever happened to the motor ( i think a land rover ) that cost about £80,000 to check for & find future potholes ? IT'S OK, ITS BEEN FOUND BY FOUR MINERS IN A POTHOLE !!!
Pot-holes are one thing if you are driving a car, but quite another if you hit one on a motorbike.
Instead of blocking off and restricting the width of roads and building speed bumps, they should concentrate on sorting out the road surface itself.
It's not just bikes + vehicles that are incurring serious damage as a result. Many people with fragile bodies are being seriously injured/breaking bones/spending days in hospital as a result of our city's appalling roads. It's a serious, expensive and life threatening problem which reminds me of recent travels in developing countries...
Go to most other local authorities and you will find the roads are usually in a much better state of repair - the comparison is simple.
I've never understood the model of drains used in this countries, the vehicles go right over the top, which inevitably creates potholes. Why not have drains under the kerb, like in the US or many European countries?
