Who else would back this bruiser and embarrassment to the Labour party. His departure was obvious from the moment Blair finally set his date. Both, no doubt, will find some sinecure in Europe.

Until we revert to English MPs representing English constituencies we will have problems. Both Scotland & Wales have assemblies making decisions for Scotland & Wales but we also have Scots & Welsh making decisions for England. Gordon Brown & Dr Reid are both Scottish as is my own MP. The Lothian question needs to be addressed urgently.
We have political parties of all persuasions deciding to ensure short lists of prospective candidates represent more fully the make up of constituencies & yet we still have Scots & Welsh selected when they bear no relationship to the ethnic or sex make up of constituencies.

You already have and always have had English MP representing English constituencies. English MPs are by far the largest group in parliament. The Scots and Welsh MP’s acting together cannot overturn the English majority. Do the math stupid!!
It’s nice to know you are just beginning to realise how we Non English Constituents have had our democratic rights trampled on over the last few hundred years.
I agree we should resolve the Mid Lothian Question and the easiest way to do that would be to make Scotland Independent. The only problem I would see in such a solution would be where to draw the border – Newcastle was once part of Scotland and they might just insist we take you back. That could be a stumbling block for many thinking Scots!! That’s the majority of us.

I thought he had actually quit already, but just kept taking the wages?!?!

Thank god we are going to see the end of this incompetent, lying, fat buffoon. Why not take that muppet-head, Ruth Kelly with you, and all those other Labour incompetents who care more about keeping power than actually doing anything constructive to address the social and environmental ills that they have inflicted on us these many years? What an uttlerly incompetent government. Yes, there is always money for a war somewhere in the world, but never enough to rid the streets of its litter and graffiti and put the young brats who make life miserable for us in jail.

I wonder how much John Prescott will get as a "golden handshake" when he leaves? Will he keep his croquet stick?

Peter Cherbi,

.. to be replaced by another who will get up to more of the same, no doubt.

Freedom is a warm jag .. better make it two for his getaway ...

Prescott is a fat incompetent halfwit but then the only difference between him and the rest of the Liebour party is his weight.

9

Paula,

No one should worry, Prescott will ensure he will keep his snout in the pig trough just like the other politicians! Never fear the pension for any of them.

I believe a large wad of council tax goes to pay for pensions. The rest of us can go and get stuffed as we can't afford to save due to the high cost of living.

Prescott embodies everything that is rancid about this country of ours.

JOHN PRESCOTT today announced he would stand down as Deputy Prime Minister when Tony Blair quits, just hours after giving his backing to Gordon Brown's Labour leadership bid.

Good riddance! This man is a buffoon.
But here is some good news.
The media may not be telling you.

An incredible victory for the SNP and candidate John Beare in Markinch ward in Fife on Thursday evening.
The SNP vote was up 26.2% to take 55.7% of the total vote. Labour collapsed by 34% to give the SNP a swing from Labour of 30.1%.
Having checked all 107 by-elections results going back to the year 2000, this is by far the biggest swing to the SNP in any by-election.

The full result is;
SNP 892 (55.7%) +26.2%
Lab 388 (24.2%) -34%
Lib Dem 257 (16%) +10.4%
Con 39 (2.6%) -4%
Ind 25 (1.6%)
