UNEMPLOYED Lothians teachers are being targeted by education chiefs in Australia in a bid to solve staff shortages at schools Down Under.
The government of Western Australia is offering to sponsor teachers from Scotland who are keen to work in the sunny state.

Secondary school teachers in maths, physics and chemistry are being sought for the area's 770 schools. English and biology teachers are also in demand.

The campaign was launched after education officials read reports of Scots teaching graduates unable to find jobs. Those with a minimum of four years' university training are being offered a three-year visa.

Sharyn O'Neill, director general of the Department of Education and Training, said: "We also offer to sponsor these teachers for permanent residency after two years of satisfactory service and guarantee full-time employment in a country school. If the teacher decides they don't want permanent residency, we can extend the visa by two years."

They're poaching our polis, too - anybody see 'David Copperfield' of the policeman's blog on telly last week? It seems the UK's finest are departing like lemmings to the colonies.

Can you condemn poeple quitting a losing country. My advise to young people would be to get out and start a new life in a better country. Britian is finished unless it gets out of Europe.

Anyone moving to Perth(western Australia)had better think long and hard. The city has the wonderfull tag of DULLSVILLE.I lived there for a year and there was more nightlife in Cramond.Pathetic for a city of 1.2 million.Almost every single family family I met there were either back in the the UK or were wishing they were.
Don't want to sound like a complete snob here but the only folk that hack Australia are generally from really deprived areas of the UK.
