A PARADE through the streets of New York was to be the culmination of a week of events celebrating Scottish and Scottish-American culture today.
First Minister Alex Salmond and Presiding Officer Alex Fergusson were due to attend the tenth annual Tartan Day parade.
The parade's grand marshal will be Lawrence Tynes, of 2008 Superbowl champions New York Giants, who was born in Greenock and brought up in Campbeltown. He said: "Having been born in Scotland as well as being a proud American, this parade has special meaning. I look forward to sharing a great day with everyone."
The parade includes dozens of pipe bands and draws participants from Scotland, the US, Switzerland, Canada and Pakistan.
Mr Salmond said: "The Tartan Day Parade is always a great focal point of the celebrations and I will be delighted to represent the Scottish Government."
