A HIBS supporters club is boosting its activities in an attempt to attract more members.
Following a successful tribute event to club legend Pat Stanton last year, the Northern Ireland Hibs Supporters Club is hosting an event next month for another favourite, Arthur Duncan.

It is hoped the bash will increase awareness of Hibs across the Irish Sea and result in an upturn in fans travelling to Edinburgh for home games. The Belfast-based club will stage the event on June 21, which will take the same theme as the Pat Stanton night and a similar one the year before to Lawrie Reilly.

The events raised hundreds of pounds for the club and related charities such as the Dnipro Appeal.

Organisers also hope Hibees from the Capital make their way across to Northern Ireland for the event, and they are also appealing for prize donations. Events for travelling fans such as a night out and five-a-side football game are also set to be organised.

Feeling the love for the Hibbies over the water in this article then...

"who the hells going to come from ireland to easter road every second week??"
Now, that would be difficult. But we do make it over as much as money constraints allow.

"Why dont Hibs go to Ireland to play their football full time, the ground would be a developers dream,a lovely big Hotel and a Tesco super store"

Why would we want to do that? Although it would make travelling to home games much easier, I'm sure the away legs would be a nightmare for other SPL teams.

No, we'll stay where we are thanks. Although with the impeding relegation of Hearts, there may be a hotel and a Tesco somewhere near Gorgie soon enough.

Doesn't smell as nice mind. But still. If there's one thing that Edinburgh needs it's another Tesco. Supply and demand...

When Hearts manage to pick themselves out of the bottom six, then you can make comments like that.

If the Oirish want to come to easter road then they're more than welcome to do so. But why do we have to woo them? Can we not also try and woo other nations as well or are Hibs trying to jump on the sectarian rantic band wagon?

# 14, you're completely out of order.

How is it sectarian for a supporter's club to attempt to increase it's membership from it's own local area? You're comment seems to suggest you didn't actually read the article, as it's not Hibs that are doing this.
And what's with the 'Oirish' comment? You criticise other's 'sectarian' views but you aren't exactly showing yourself up in a good light.

For a start, Northern Ireland is part of Briatin, not Ireland. Secondly, who says we wont be trying to attract other fans from around the world? Obviously it makes good sense to attract fans closer to home first.

We don't exactly have the global appeal of Man U, so it would be pointless going out to Asia, for example.

#14 - I'm one of the committee organising the function. It isn't being organised by Hibs, it is being organised by NI Hibs to held bring together the Hibs fanbase in NI which is already here and to raise some money.

NI Hibs is a non-sectarian organisation. I'll be blunt - ff people want to wave flags and sing songs which have nothing to do with football then they can find a different team/supporters' club.

Frankly, I find your insinuation that NI fans of SPL teams are automatically sectarian to be pretty sinister.

The comment mentioned in POST 14 is frankly ridiculous. To say that to have support for a team from Ireland would be sectarian can only be from a person who knows sectarianism only too well.

So, basically, every member of Northern Ireland (and therfore the rest of the UK) or the Republic of Ireland who supports a team in the SPL is sectarian, because "Reichstag Hibby" says so?

I doubt that this person is a real Hibernian supporter, as if he was then he'd know better. Even Hearts fans know better than that bile.

I am astonished and insulted.

Your comments are, as has already been stated, absolute nonsense. I'm also involved in the event, and NI Hibs is a completely non-sectarian club, just like the team we support, and we are immensly proud of that fact. To state that because our SC comes from Northern Ireland would mean we are "jumping on the sectarian bandwagon" is narrow-minded, frankly idiotic, and completely inaccurate.

As HibbyNI previously stated there's no flag-waving, sectarian song-singing or any other trumpetry like that involved, we're simply a group of supporters from NI who follow our team proudly and enjoy hosting functions to honour former players and their achievements.

I doubt very much if you are as you claim a Hibby, as no decent Hibee whon knows Hibernian FC and it's supporters would come out with such a crass comment. Go back to commenting on teams you are better acquainted with, which going by the irrational judgement you just passed on us is probably one better linked to sectarianism that the completely secular Hibs.

Meant to say "Reichstag Hibby", if you feel the urge to actually look up our SC and find out what we're all about, then visit our official site at www.nihibs.com instead of jumping to conclusions and making wild assumptions about us. Judging by your comment, I think that you'll be surprised to learn that there are people in Northern Ireland who support a team for the team, and watch football for the football.
