MIKE TULLBERG has suffered a setback in his attempts to recover from a ruptured thigh muscle and may now require further specialist treatment in his native Denmark.
The striker, loaned to Hearts from the Italian side Reggina this season, was forced to abort his return to training at Riccarton on Sunday after complaining of recurring pain from the torn quad.

Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo will now consult club medical staff and sport director Anatoli Korobochka before deciding on the best course of action for Tullberg, who has made just two appearances this season.

Laszlo told the Evening News that a return to Denmark is probable. The player sought help for the same injury in his homeland in September from Thomas Macon, the private physio of Denmark's WBA super-middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler.

"Mike Tullberg still has the same problem and we must make a decision on him," said Laszlo. "I will speak with the doctors, physios and with the sport director maybe today or tomorrow, but we must have a quick solution.

"It might be best for the player to go back to Denmark and see a specialist there, but we will make a decision on this. I hope Mike can come back into the team quickly but he must be free of injury first.

"The player wants to come back but he still has this muscle problem. He tried to train on Sunday but told me he was still getting pain from his muscle and had to stop. We want him fit so we will do what is best for Mike."

Laszlo has welcomed Larry Kingston back to club duties following his trip to join the Ghanaian national squad. Provided the midfielder trains throughout this week without reaction to his thigh problem, he will be in contention to face Rangers on Saturday.

The manager was irked that Kingston, nursing a thigh injury, opted for long-haul flights to and from Africa for a friendly against Tunisia when he had no chance of playing rather than remaining in Edinburgh for treatment.

"Larry is training and we will speak about the problems we had," said Laszlo. "We do not have a bad relationship and my door is always open. It is important to think of the club but also of the player and of the team spirit.

"I will look to get him back playing. If he trains all week he can play against Rangers."

I think it's time to cut our losses in January... no point in paying this guys wages... it's not as if he's shown himself to be amazing and wasn't even Csaba's first choice striker to sign.

Offload with a few others and sign some 'FIT' players in January!

would just cancel it now never mind in january!! surely we can just terminate the loan. get this guy to f*** now! another total waste of time and money. We NEED to stop signing these people. and with Mrowiec out as well we need a new signing policy!!! preferably one which involves signing guys who are fit and can actaully manage a game of football!

If we get rid of all the Lith's more will arrive in Jan. Every Hearts game is shown live in Lithuania, hence we must have at least 1 in the team, more if poss, I don't like it but it's fact. Anyway, things are on the up IMO, come on the JT's

#5 - i agree with what you said regarding players to bin, however i would keep ruben as i feel that given proper support in midfield he could be a very useful player for us.

Also when any club signs a player on loan i'm amazed that there is no injury clause inserted. While injured the player should really be back at his registration holder (club) getting treatment with them paying his salary while he is there. It would be better for the player and the registration holder as it means that they can both confirm the player is getting the correct treatment not just a short term fix.

In very few if any other industries in the world an employer pay sickness/ injury money to a short term fixed contract employee.

I get the feeling that hearts have been sold a pup for a year. Tullberg obviously needed at least 3-4 months full recovery in August yet he has been offloaded to hearts so that they pay the costs (salary, physio etc) and reggiana get back a player in 2009 who is fit, injury free and ready to be sold.

Hearts today announced:

"The Mirsad Beslija Memorial Physiotherapy Suite" is henceforth to be known as "The Michael Tullberg Injury Setback Centre", acknowledging the generous commitments that the player has made in order to ensure that Hearts physios always have world-class opportunities to develop and hone their skills.

Gorgie Forever,

I may be missing something but what exactly is going on when these players undergo a medical?? Or have these been scrapped completely? It is simply farcical that players are arriving at the club injured.

Are the medical staff just letting them in injured so they have something to do during the week?

F**king nonsense!!

Time for him to go. There must be players of a similar ability available at a similar price who aren't constantly injured. Sure he is just unlucky, but no reason for him to be unlucky at Hearts.
18

i wanna be like John Colquhoun,

25/11/2008 12:47:04
wouldnt bin zal or miko but the rest can go as far as im concerned. i know zali has his moments but i think it is a concentration issue and not ability. and miko has been playing well before his injury so really wouldnt ged rid of them. so out of your list would get shot of Chesny as he is the only one injured all the time!!

at least we can get a game out of the others!! its the beslijas, pinillas, tullbergs, Mrowiecs (who needed surgery BEFORE we signed him) we need shot of. i mean wtf is that all about?? the guys knee is f***d but sign him anyway...

i dont mind the liths at all and think as hearts fans we shouldnt even care where they are from. what annoys me more are the wasters and cripples we get and would someone just stop signing them in the first place!!

A Jambo come rain or shine,

Jesus - i've never seen such an overeaction! #15 He wasn't injured when he arrived. He did his muscle in his 1st game for Hearts and then tried to play through it because he was desperate to land a loand deal - not the clubs fault, his fault.
#12/16 - What is he supposed to do? "No thanks, i don't want my wages because i'm injured. Don't worry, someone else will earn a living for me!" Of course he's going to pick up his wages - you would!
I know for a fact that he's desperate to play and make an impression but he's got a muscle injury that is proving difficult to get rid of. Plenty other players have had similar problems in the past.
Our midfielder - that's another story. I don't remember him breaking down in training or in a game so i can only assume he was injured on arrival so that is a shambles.

25

Johnny Jambo,

25/11/2008 13:04:01
Come on guys, this lad was not injured when he arrived, he got injured playing for us.
Hearts have taken players on who are injured on arrival but they are not the only club to do that are they.

If I remember right Man U took Owen Hargreaves on whilst he was injured and many other clubs have done it.

Give Tullberg a break and lets wait and see what he is like when fit.

#21 think alot of people are missing the point.

i think the guy has been unlucky and its a shame he wont get a decent run out but i just think we should cut our losses and send him back. a recurring problem like he is suffering is not just going to go away. he could get fit for a few games and then his muscle will go again. a bit like andy kirk i imagine. he was always in for a few games then out for a few. too injury prone.

but he is the latest in a long line and signing guys who are injured and need surgery is a total farce. I didnt know we had employed the Rangers doctor!!!????

coupled with guys like beslija, pinilla etc who just never played cause they are injured then it gets a bit tiring! it gets to the point where you dont care if tullberg ever plays a game or not. just want someone who CAN actually play/run without doing themselves some physical damage...not alot to ask really is it?

Those of you who want Zaliukas out - why?! We have one other centre half apart from Berra and he is obviously going to play midfield.

one goal conceded in four games hardly suggest he is playing badly and he has made some brilliant blocks and tackles recently plus hardly ever loses a ball in the air.

As for Obua, he looks very skilful - give him time.
31

It has been a rocky ride so far this season and not that pretty but as things stand with us 3points clear in third Lazslo deserves credit.

However, what really depresses me is that we were desperately in need of a couple of quality signings in the summer that could come in and make a real impact. What we got was another player who is forever injured and Obua who has been injured on and off and if we are to be honest looks completely unsuited for Scottish football. You can make only two signings and they are both going to make a negative contribution this season.

Our scouting and signing policy must dramatically improve.

what I can't understand is that Hearts seem to be happy to let injured players go back home for treatment. This guy plus I read last week that one of the lithuanians was allowed to go back to seek treatment there.
Isn't Edinburgh a centre of medical excellence?
I don't remember Hibs letting Killen disappear to NZ when he was injured. Not point-scoring, just wondering why two clubs would have totally different policies.

#47 Mrowiec was defo carrying an injury before he signed. he managed a couple of games but the problem was there. and i agree he looked ok. as did tullberg but its the number of injury prone players we have. i would rather get the chance to gather an opinion of these players but i cant because they are never fit. thats like taking a sicky every day from your work. the boss is surely going to have to get to the point when your actually not worth paying as your not there more than you are there. thats why hearts should send him back and wish him all the best.

im judging obua on what ive seen so far and he looks rubbish. i will support players and back them when they pull on the hearts top. doesnt mean im going to get maroon specs on and think he is a prospect when i dont. i hope he proves me wrong but im not holding out much hope.

and as for a hearts v hibs argument its not even up for discussion and the fact that hibs fans believe they are superior when the FACTS suggest otherwise just goes to show there is no point. but i feel their pain and offer my sympathies!
49

A Jambo come rain or shine,

25/11/2008 16:06:03
#52 I see where you're coming from but isn't january a notoriously difficult time to sign and decent players, whether on loan or permanently? I'd say that the management saw something in Tullberg and don't want to waste that by sending him packing. If it's a muscle problem then it will go away. Also, can you terminate a loan deal just like that? I think it would have to be with the concent of all 3 parties, or at least 2.
No sign of the wee hobo - realised his mistakes and pegged it with his wee rat tail between his legs.

#21 Jambo come rain or shine

I would say that this my comments would be an overreaction if this was the first time that it had happened and maybe he was not injured when he signed but we seem to have rather alot of players who are injury prone on the books. Surely we should also look at their history of injuries as we cannot continue to sign players that regularly get crocked. I'm not having a go at the guy but its just one time too many for my liking.

Also maybe I didn't get my point across well enough but I have major concerns about what happens during training as alot of the boys seem to suffer setbacks before they get on the pitch. Are we pushing them too hard too early? Surely the physios know when he is injured and advise the management not to pick him?
51

i wanna be like John Colquhoun,

#54 im not talking about ability!! im not judging his ability as tullberg might be amazing but he is far too injury prone!! we are paying him to not play regardless of how good he is. ive not even got an opinion of him as he hasnt played enough!! he got injured before the season started.....got injured trying to recover from that. got back to start a game and injured again and on his recovery this time got injured again...there is something wrong here!! not bad luck...the guy is injury prone and so the tullberg scenario is looking exactly like the beslija scenario.

the scotsmans report below says MROWIEC has had the injury for some time and was a persistant knee problem.

#55 I'm not convinced by us having a lot of injury prone players on our books - Chesney is a definite. I'm not even convinced i'd class tullberg as injury prone - it's the same injury which hadn't cleared up as opposed to regularly getting new injuries. Does Tullberg have a history of injuries?
Agree that the story that came out about Tullberg being "pushed" too hard in training before the derby which resulted in his getting injured again is worrying but you've also got to look at Robbie and Bruno coming back from long term injuries to see that the medical team do do a good job.
53

Gorgie Forever,

Yes I agre that they have done good work with Bruno and Robbie and I'm not sure of the exact details of those injuries but they didn't excatly come back in a flash did they? As I say without knowing excatly what they are dealing with I won't be critical.

I think we are reducing the number of players on the books with regular injuries but as #56 says its not the first time with Tullberg. I hate to have a pop at the guy but if he did hide the fact he wasn't fully fit then that is extremely unprofessional. Ok its shows commitment but also that he is very naive.

I think the main thing is that he is hoovering up wages that we can little afford. Bite the bullet and terminate the loan.

PS Can anyone tell me if we have to pay his current club anything if we cancel his loan contract?

What a mess ! I was looking forward to him partnering someone up front like Nade. Its like dejavu. A good striker signs for Hearts only to be injured from day one. It reminds me of Panilla, no question. The reports in the paper when we signed him sudjested he was injured, he would be fit a couple of weeks into the season, there for he would miss pre season training. He was a bench warmer in Italy which doesnt make him a bad player. But in that case, who was watching him play, whos fault is this ? I for one dont think for a minute Csab was watching him. He was an international manager with an African nation. Why would he have scouts watching him before he became Hearts manager. This might be a wake up call for Vlad and his sporting director. Beslija,Panilla, ect. Let the manager choose which players come to the club & only the manager. I would put my mortgage on the Italians are P155ing themselves as we pay the wages of their injured player. (FARCE)
