Published Date: 01 December 2008
UKIO BANKAS Investment Group have stressed there is no cash flow problem at Hearts following the latest delay in players' wage payments.
Vladimir Romanov's Lithuanian company, which finances the Edinburgh club, insisted this morning that all weekly salaries would be paid into players' accounts today after payment failed to be processed as scheduled on Friday.

The Evening News can reveal that UBIG and Hearts are in the process of implementing a new structure for bonus payments, aimed at ensuring the squad remains motivated towards securing third place in the SPL this season. Win bonuses are paid separately but salaries would be in the banks of the Hearts players today, according to UBIG officials.

A definitive explanation for the delay was not forthcoming, however the group's head of marketing and communications, Jurga Chomskyte-McGeever, sought to alleviate concerns of a financial crisis at Tynecastle.

"The money was processed on Friday before the Rangers game. It will be straight into the players' accounts today," she said. "As far as UBIG is concerned, our people are trying to look into why this happened. From our side, the wages have been processed.

"There is not a problem with cash flow to my knowledge. The funds have been allocated and processed. It is between the club and our sports division how they deal with the money."

Sergejus Fedotovas, a director of both Hearts and UBIG, said: "There is no situation at all, the players have been paid. The club processed payments on Friday but they haven't reached the players' bank accounts yet."

UBIG gave no guarantees that there would be no repeat of the situation, which first arose back in September when Hearts players were paid almost a week late. The club blamed a "technical hitch" on that occasion.

"We can never say it won't happen again but there is no reason to have any concern," continued Chomskyte-McGeever. "It has been a one-day delay so in our terms so it is only a small problem, nothing to worry about.

"We are trying to introduce new motivation systems so that the club stays in third place.

"We are working on that and thinking of the best way to deal with players to keep them going in the same direction. This is a club issue, though."

#1 & #2 -

A little bit immature don't you think?

Logging on as quick as you can to counteract comments from the glourious Hibs support!

There's no doubt about it, Hearts are on a fantastic run. I have to laugh at fellow Hibees on here who try to mock the fact that you're grinding out 1-0 wins, as I'd be suck a dugs baws for the same!

On the other hand, the back room shenanigans are on par with something the late Jermey Beadle would be proud of!

P.S Lazslo looks like Robert Englund aka Freddy Kruger! Did you see the pillock after the game on Sat?

(1) You're repeating what the majority of Hibs fans have been saying for a while. So what's your point caller?

(2) The signing of Deek backfiring? Are you mad? He's still way off match fitness, but scored 5 goals this season. Something any Hearts striker looks uncapable of.

Now why don't you comment on the story and stop yer drivel

Whilst I dont think it is mandatory, I think a reasonable explanation for the wages problem would help the fans to understand what is going wrong.
It could be transfer issues across the countries causing the problem, i have had similar problems in the past where money transfers took longer than anticipated.

No cash flow probs nooooop..

How come you are 30 mill in debt..
9

Johnny Jambo,

01/12/2008 12:18:05
#6 The fact that Deek has scored 5 goals already is OK for Hibs, but you don't seem to be managing to get the right results, whereas Hearts Strikers not scoring doesnt seem to be affecting the results too much, goals are coming from other areas. I dont mind who scores the goals really.
I know this may not last but we need to take it as it is for the moment.

Johnny Jambo,

Fair point, however I was answering #3's post. They seem to think that Hibs are unhappy at the return of a very good striker. It's a no-brainer as to what I'd what out of a performing stirker vs a performing team.

Having seen Hibs at the start of the season compared to recently, I'm actually pleased with the way we are starting to play football. Man-for-man, i don't think there's much difference between Hearts and Hibs defence, however our is much more unorganised. It's worrying when you have a 6ft 6 centre half, but concede as meany headers as we do.

Anyway, I'm waffling - time for a kit kat

If i am correct in saying that the wages are paid through ukio bankas?

if this is the case then it means they will have a tie in in some way to america (bear with me, i know it sounds strange) as does the lithuanian economy. could it possibly be unheard of to think that because of the thanksgiving weekend shutdown that this may have had an effect. I have had to deal in the past with american financial institutions and if things arent done by a certain time before the holiday shutdown then its generally tough tittie till the following week!

A lot of people would be in a bad way if their pay was three days late in the bank, but Hearts players don't seem to care. Shows how far football players are removed from the realities of the world these days. I wish I was too!

Debt a lot lower than £30 million? Don't be too sure!
The £12mil shares for debt did'nt go through until the last couple of days of your financial year so a whole years interest was due at ??? %.
Your expenditure is still way over income,so I'd guess £30mil will not be that wide of the mark when the accounts are published.

#24 - Thanks Santa for that piece of new just before Xmas.
I agree that the Shares deal was maybe not included in the Financial year figures but there were a few other numbers which would have gonethrough such as the Gordon transfer money and some others, so we are probably around 24-25M when the financials are announced.

#14 - I would not be one Jambo who criticesed Deek, I happen to think he is a good player and would have had him at the time the debate was going on. I am just living the dream at the moment with the run Hearts are on, I know it is likely to end sometime soon, I hope not though.
24

Newcastle Jambo,

01/12/2008 12:45:57
The really interesting point here is "UBIG and Hearts are in the process of implementing a new structure for bonus payments, aimed at ensuring the squad remains motivated towards securing third place in the SPL this season".

If I was a Hearts player, I would not be up for a foreign bank re-negotiating my terms and conditions in the middle of my contract.

It's not hard to guess what's really going on. In order to cut down a hugely inflated wage bill, existing contracts are being "re-negotiated" so that basic salary is slashed and the rest is bonuses based on appearances and win bonuses.

Now, if certain players are due a payment for reaching a certain number of games per season, will Romanov drop them? If anyone refuses to sign these new terms they will be offski in January for sure.

#29 NJ, I dont think thats the case, I think that since Hearts went on this run VR has realised that perhaps there is a chance to get up there for either the CL or UEFA cup so sorting out a new Bonus scheme could be a good thing to do because of the potential financial income if Hearts do qualify for either.

Hate to break it to you but overall debt and cash flow are not related. A company can have zero debt and still have cash flow problems. Conversley a company can be billions in debt and have no cash flow problems at all.......

But then you knew that

OK, my point (are you all ready?!?!)

I think we've only seen the tip of the iceberg with regards to money not in accounts, etc. The "credit crunch" is in early stages, so the worst is possibly to come. (Only my opinion based on slight market knowledge before the word Hobonomics, gets mentioned!)

The fact that Hearts are pulling together and getting these results shows you what Hibees are missing out on - team spirit

# 22 - McHibee, are you having a laugh??

"you don't put forward to very convincing retort, now do you? And you mock Hibs for a false sense of financial knowledge"

The glaringly obvious reason that he cannot put forward a very convincing retort is the fact that it is pretty much impossible to quote an accurate figure until the actual accounts are finalised!!

In the previous years that led to our debt going up to approx £36-37m, did we earn over £10m in transfer revenue or sell debt for equity?? The answer, no.

Stop dealing in myth and fantasty Hibs supporters, it only serves in making you appear more pathetic than usual.

Money transfers from foreign banks nearly always take between two and three working days to have cleared funds into specific accounts. If the money is wired prior to the lunch time of the sending day - two working days is the norm.
Don't be surprised that the money does not appear until tomorrow. Even IF there are proper excuses late payment of wages twice is very poor.Someone needs their backside kicked - Trouble is no win bonuses, as there is a "new bonus system being put in place". If I was a FFFHibee I would be on here saying that it looks like only the basic wages can be scraped together and there is not enough cash available for the full remunerations.
Shame too - just as things were progressing on the field so well.Sorry - Just as things ARE going so well - Not being negative there.
Come on Vlad sort it out - you've been doing well of late . (Plus - announce that we are going for a new stand only and not the full mini entertainment village at £51m that we all know will not happen - progress with this would be most welcome as well)

Poor reporting and if they had taken the time to find out the first time this happened it was the bank's fault nothing to to with Hearts. Ukio transfere the money to an account which supplies Hearts with working capital and it was this bank that had the problem. Story out of nothing. During my time with the Scottish Ambulance service this was almost a monthly occurance, but no headline news there.

I'll post it again seeing as some alleged "Administrator" removed the first one - obviously the EEN aren't keen on facts.

Last week, in instalment 1 of the Scotsman puff-piece, Campbell Ogilvie is quoted as saying -

"I keep hearing about Vladimir saying he was going to win the Champions League with Hearts; I'm yet to find a direct quote from him on that. I don't think, being honest, he thought he could come in here and win the Champions League"

Here it is in The Times, dated 15th October 2005.........

Quote from Vlad -

“Our goal has to be champions of Europe. I want us to be at the stage where to do anything else, to come back without the trophy, would be shameful. I’d like to do it quicker but I think we’re looking at three years. Nobody believes us. That’s fine. Three years should suffice.”

Hope that's cleared that up.

#66 You seem to believe everything that you read in the papers is trues and that Romanov really did think Hearts woud be European champions in a few years. So I suppose Romanov really does think the media are hairy and live in trees, because he also is quoted as saying this:

"Now it has become obvious to me why you, the Monkeys, were trying to ruin Hearts - not only in the Championship but in European competitions as well."

Romanov liked to joke about with the media when he first arrived. All "quotes" he made must be taken with a large pinch of salt. The fact that more Hibees than Jambos appear willing to take what he says at face value says a lot about the intelligence level of the average Hibs fan.

81 I did, and got a number wrong, 2005 for 2006. That's me Jed Clampitt, for now anyway.
So I go back to my original chorus- "Our aim has to be" is not "We will win"

Any word on why Serg has a Lithuanian contact yet BTW?

#87, Sorry, no idea who this "Serg" character is.

Your "original chorus" is as limp as a vicar's handshake BTW.

Its going to be an expensive January after all this Christmas and New year stuff. Celebrating Hearts stuffing hibs on the 3rd , then off to Easter road a few days later to celebrate 108 years in a row. The credit crunch will be hitting hard. Hobbos need not to worry as they will be back at home thinking-- oh well , maybe next year.

89 "Your "original chorus" is as limp as a vicar's handshake BTW."

"Our aim has to be" IS very different from "We will win" or "We wll definitely" no matter how limp your vicar is.

To avoid confusion I'll ask 90 direct- Serg, why on earth would you, as a genuine Lithuanian, have a Lithuanian contact?

#92 Are you saying that any ex-pat can't have a contact within their country of origin or are you correcting his grammar, as he should have said a contact back in Lithuania?
Either way it is a bit of a poor attempt to deflect from the main story.

Usual xenephobic bile from the hobos. Scots bank screws up and the Russians are to blame. shows you up as the scum you are.

Glorious Hearts,

92 I'm an ex-pat, I know many others, and I've never heard ANY of them refer to someone back home in this way.
"A guy I know back home," yes. "My contact in Lithuania," no. It wasn't even "One of my contacts in Lithuania" for goodness sake!

I know for a fact that Serg is not Lithuanian (it's nice to have friends across the divide) but all I'm really doing is pointing out his inconsistencies in public.
He deliberately lies and misleads.

I'm not deflecting from anything, I understand the wages weren't paid on time. What's to deflect?
The wages will be paid, Hearts will carry on and Hibs will struggle to keep up. Same old, same old!

As you are responding to yourself, you will have the answers, but if you are calling yourself a racist, then it must be true.
Think you've made a bit of a James Hunt of yourself!!

104 I don't think schizophrenia's the mental disease you need to worry about - I'd be more concerned about your delusional tendencies

"more facts you dont have at your disposal a player valued at over £500.000,"

That sir, is just stupid. We turned down more than double that for Berra in the summer just for starters. I won't even go into the value of players like Kingston, let alone young talent like Jonsson, Wallace, Driver etc etc etc

Thank you for one thing tho- nothing gives me a bigger laugh than being reminded of the phrase "Leith San Siro"
107

Bids for berra in the region of 1.5 million not accepted.... Bids for Driver in the region of 1.5 million not accepted. Driver given longterm deal. But hey ho hobbos, that must mean were facing financial disaster caus they got paid late again eh. The administrators are on the way to drive multi billionaire romanov into the ground and take one of his smaller projects in life HMFC with them. DREAM ON , OR CHANGE THE RECORD --YOUR CHOICE.

I do not wish to detract from sterling performances by Hearts against Rangers, because the team deserves praise when they get it right, as much as the inevitable criticism when they flop.
Having said that ,one cannot help but notice what a difference having Bruno Aguiar makes to the team.He is a first class act and Hearts exude confidence when he is around. This team still needs a decent striker, but otherwise (provided Aguiar steers clear of injury),I can see them holding third place without too much trouble.
The problem will be where will Aguiar play next season? I suspect a few English clubs will have taken note of Hearts surge since his return.
I hope not.Look at Rangers minus Quelar! He is/was another classy player.
Aston Villa will have one of their best ever seasons /defensive records with him in their ranks.
Hearts goal must now be to catch Rangers,a tall order indeed, and the winter transfer window "should" see a few departures and arrivals at Tynecastle, but please note the word "SHOULD".
I suspect there will be precious little change to the personnel at least coming in anyway, which is sad,(unless you count another bus load of Lithuanians as progress), because I suspect the current manager could take Hearts into Europe easily.Given a free reign he could even keep them there!
Romanov will make the decisions though and his lack of ambition is the pre requisite of failure.
The finances of the club are still not sound, and why half these players are there God only knows. There are five or six who are genuine contenders, but there are a lot of also rans, and they serve no purpose at Tynecastle at all. There are too many average players who inflate the wage bill, and will not feature in the first team on merit. If they do appear its because of injury(which is fair enough) or simply because Romanov said so.
He who pays the piper calls the tune, but it does not guarantee music to our ears!
109

Glorious Hearts,

02/12/2008 16:04:43
115 re aguiar, yes he's a good player but you over-emphasise his importance. Before his injury he was good but not spectacular and to view him as vital after only a few games back is very short-sighted IMO
In reality, he's had a handful of very good games for Hearts, probably less than Miko. I know they're different situations but it puts things in context for me.

How you can determine Romanov's ambition and the financial situation at the club is beyond me as neither are public record.
Also, how can you say "Romanov will make the decisions" despite Csaba emphatically denying this is the case?

As for the line "another bus load of Lithuanians," I think I'd better just keep away from that one!

For all you Romanov bashers, there is one truth you can't escape from- Romanov gets the blame for the bad things but no credit for the good things. Who brought in Csaba? Who gave Driver, Berra, Wallace et al contract extensions? Who pays for the scouting network and youth system?
Who made sure we got value for Hartley, Bednar, Gordon etc?

I'm not saying life's perfect but we need to stop this drama-queenery!
