Aberdeen - Mackie 13
Hearts - Wallace 20
HEARTS were again left cursing SFA officialdom after drawing with Aberdeen as referee Steve Conroy awarded them a late penalty before changing his mind in extraordinary circumstances. After pointing to the spot following Jamie Langfield's challenge on Michael Stewart, Conroy went back on his call having consultated with assistant referee Chris Young. The decision left Hearts outraged and resulted in home manager Csaba Laszlo entering the field at full-time to confront Conroy.

Scenes at the end were peppered by individuals clashing on the field and Laszlo may now find himself called before the SFA to explain his actions. His frustration was understandable, however, given that the penalty incident occurred at a time when Hearts looked likely to edge in front.

Both goals had arrived during the first half, Darren Mackie the perpetrator for Aberdeen and Lee Wallace equalising just seven minutes later. Nonetheless, post-match conversation was dominated by the penalty that was awarded then cancelled by Conroy, a referee who has previous with Hearts after being accused of racism by Larry Kingston at Pittodrie last year.

What did take place was an enthralling match littered with drama and entertainment on the most slippery of surfaces. Andy Driver was a notable absentee for Hearts despite returning from injury in last weekend's Edinburgh derby. Having toiled with thigh and pelvis complaints all week, he failed a midday fitness test and was replaced in the starting 11 by Ruben Palazuelos. Saulius Mikoliunas deputised for Larry Kingston on the opposite flank, whilst Janos Balogh started in goal for the first time.

The swirling wind and surface water were hardly conducive to flowing football, and the conditions made a telling contribution to the opening goal on 13 minutes. Andrew Considine's through pass from the left-back zone skidded beyond Marius Zaliukas to the onrunning Mackie. The Lithuanian appeared unaware of his opponent's movement and Mackie proceeded with a tidy finish through the legs of Janos Balogh.

This prompted travelling supporters to launch streamers onto the Tynecastle pitch, but their celebrations were muted seven minutes later when Wallace restored parity. The full-back played a precise one-two with Christian Nade on the edge of Aberdeen's penalty area and, taking the return, lofted the ball high into Langfield's net with an exquisite finish.

The game continued in end-to-end fashion with Hearts appearing to grow in strength as the first half progressed. Saulius Mikoliunas headed Bruno Aguiar's corner wide before Zander Diamond interrupted a fluent home attack with the aid of his arm on 35 minutes. Despite denying Mikoliunas a clear run at Langfield by doing so, referee Conroy allowed play to continue. He then further incurred the wrath of home supporters by booking Saulius Mikoliunas for his first foul of the afternoon, a late sliding challenge on Andrew Considine.

Both teams emerged in search of a second goal after the interval, which ought to have arrived on 54 minutes when Nade nodded Aguiar's corner over the Aberdeen crossbar from four yards. At the other end Balogh seemed less than assured and, following a corner needlessly conceded by the Hungarian, Jared Hodgkiss struck Hearts' crossbar. The entertainment was at a premium and showed little sign of relenting in a fixture played more like a February cup tie than a late October league meeting.

Aguiar headed wide from Nade's 74th-minute cross, but Aberdeen's attacking threat was always evident and led to Lee Miller, the former Tynecastle forward, striking woodwork 60 seconds later with a raking drive from distance.

Entering the final ten minutes, the game was evenly balanced. One telling intervention from either side would have guaranteed victory, and it seemed Stewart had produced that moment six minutes from time. He surged into the penalty area and fell under Langfield's challenge, prompting referee Conroy to point to the penalty spot. As the home players celebrated Conroy then consulted with his far side assistant, Chris Young, before going back on his decision and awarding Aberdeen a goal kick. At first glance it seemed a blatant penalty and Hearts' sense of injustice was evident all around Tynecastle. The thought also arrived that Stewart, were it not a penalty, should then have been cautioned for diving.

At the very least, the sight of a referee acting on orders from an assistant was unprecedented.

Laszlo's side continued pressing for a winning goal into stoppage time. Substitute Deividas Cesnauskis struck a post and Jamie Mole sent the rebound into the Gorgie Road Stand, but the feeling of being victimised by referees saw Laszlo charge onto the field at full-time. He headed for Conroy but was halted by a combination of the fourth official, John McKendrick, and his coaching staff.

Several players also clashed, and leaving the stadium it was undeniable that Conroy's call was one of the most bizarre ever seen in Gorgie.

Hearts (4-4-1-1): Balogh; Jonsson, Zaliukas, Berra, Wallace; Mikoliunas, Karipidis, Stewart, Palazuelos; Aguiar; Nade. Subs: MacDonald, Makela, Cesnauskis 79 (for Mikoliunas), Mole 76 (for Nade), Thomson, Ksanavicius 86 (for Aguiar), Rapnik.

Aberdeen (4-4-2): Langfield; Hodgkiss, Diamond, Mair, Considine; Young, Severin, Foster, Aluko; Mackie, Miller. Subs: Bateman, Mulgrew 89 (for Miller), Wright, Kerr, Duff, De Visscher, Maguire.

Referee: Steve Conroy.

Good game today and we came back well after going behind early again.Big Zal needs to get a grip,he has started to panic too much and he puts the keeper under pressure with his pass backs.
I hate to say it but I dont think the keeper touched Stewart but when was the last time you saw a ref change his mind like that?He was nearer the ball than the lineman. It will be good to see it on tv tonight.A draw was about right and we are playing better football now.

#5 If you mean the Derek Riorden "penalty" - that decision went against us as he should have been booked for going down too easily. TV analysis proved it. Then we get a perfectly good goal chalked off...

just back from tynie after watching a decent match - fairly even over the piece i thought, good chsnces for both teams to win it.

on the penalty incident, my first thought was that it was possibly a generous one, but having given it surely he has to stick to his decision - the ref was much closer to it than the linesman and even allowing for the different angle, when do you ever see referee's doing a u-turn on an awarded pen?

take this incident and imagine it has been awarded to either half of the forces of darkness at home with 5 mins to go - firstly, the linesman wouldn't have the bottle to get involved, secondly, even if he did the ref would ignore him and even if he was bold enough to consult him he would overule him....just another example of the gfa in action

oh and while i'm here, messy tackles flying in throughout the course of the match and who gets booked for his first foul? miko obviously...it's becoming a joke....

we're not paranoid, they're just out to get us...

oh, and you're still a fa**y #5 eh hombre?

12

Zohan,

it looked like a pen from where I was sat, and the ref had a good view of it and had no hesitation in awarding it at first, he booked miko for his 1st foul but let worse dons ones go. The whole of the SFA are a fkin joke. Lazslo will get hung out to dry no doubt. Still it was a good game to watch, nade done well but we need a decent striker, mole should have scored at the end.

#42, i was in section N so had a good view and at the end csaba made for the referee, fourth official tried to hold him back, csaba shook him off and had words with ref as did most of the hearts players....lots of pushing and shoving, but nothing major....no doubt hearts will be severely punished by gfa....let's wait and see how it compares to fine given to boruc this week....have to say it looked like a wee bit of a soft pen and langfield was making the tv sign as he left the field, also wasn't much grumbling from hearts players when ref reversed his decision....still he gave it and when do you ever see them reverse their decisions...

Meaning = A person of very low intelligence, a person who is capable only of keeping himself or herself out of danger, and of performing simple tasks under supervision. 2 A stupid person, a fool, mantally weak, stupid, foolish, derived from latin (imbecillus)... noun = Idiot, moron , cretin.

Unfortunate that Andy Driver was missing today but good to see that Wallace had a good performance even without Driver in front of him.

Of course Lazlo will get the book thrown at him. After all it's a much more heinous crime to try to speak to a referee than it is to incite 30,000 blue noses, isn't it?

We need a reliable striker.

He is going to shut a lot of hibbys up come may. we need strikers. So you dont put 3 C*ap strikers on , you play one with a strong midfield until better strikers are available. But the availability of strikers will or will not come in january. Who knows.

From where I was sitting in Wheatfield stand it wasn't a penalty despite being up out of my seat screaming for ref to give it. It was the sort of challenge Novo or McGeady will get but is never normally given in a normal game. However as I had Mikey Stewart at 16/1 for last goal I was not surprised when ref changed his mind as I never win in these bets.

Not a bad game though and good to see Lee Wallace get a goal.

Another week and another sitter missed from 7 yards or so. Over the 90 minutes a draw was probably a fair result in horrid conditions...would have been nice to steal the points though.
I thought it was a soft penalty, but a penalty none the less. Will need to watch the highlights though to be sure as I sit at the other end of the Wheatfield. If it's not a penalty though why was Mickey not booked?

78

Des' Dad,

It doesn't matter now whether it was a penalty or not what DOES matter is that in all my years watching football I've never seen a referee having his decision over ruled by a Linesman/Assistant referee. Yes, a referees decision has changed after consultation with another official but only because that official spotted another offence such as offside or a foul before the actual incident took place. But for a referee to completely change his mind about awarding a penalty when he was much closer to the incident than the assistant simply beggars belief.

Over quarter way through season and exactly level with a poor Hibs team. At least it's better than last year but not acceptable.

Aberdeen one of poorest sides in country just now and still stop us getting 3 points at home.

Concerned we are wasting a good talent in an under 21 keeper, Romanov too busy trying to raise value of others.

I think this hole book Miko he dived or book Miko because he is simply on the pitch .The SfA are a total joke i cant believe the amount of errors happened in that game .And i certanly would NOT be giving the referees a pay rise that was total cheek to ask for that as there simply not of a high enough standard of refeering And if Miko had dived what would have happened jumped to conclusions and Big Zander Dimond wold have been pointing his finger at Miko As he did at Pittodrie but if one of the Aberdeen players were to hit the deck free kick or penalty i ca garentee
And i can vauguley rember Miko being interviewd last season and being asked weither or not referees pick on him and he says `No well Miko am afraid your wrong he is either trying to be nice to see if they`l go back on his side or hes not wanting a fuss well i think he should make a fuss i could see who angery Miko was that he got booked for a foul he didnot commit Conroy his a joke If i was Miko i would e standing up for myself and making myself heard IT SIMPLY GOING TOO FAR in terms of disions going in his favour
