THIS YEAR has held mixed fortunes for Scottish anglers in the Home Internationals with medals of all descriptions being awarded.
However, from June 5-12, 2009, Scotland will host anglers from all over the world for the FIPS-MOUCHE World Championships and, at present, between 22-28 countries will be competing.
The competition offers the ideal chance for any angler, n
o matter what their level of competence, to witness some of the best in action.
The headquarters are based in Drymen but the competition waters are the Lake of Menteith, Carron Valley, Loch Awe, Loch Leven and the River Tay.
It will be the opportunity of a lifetime to watch and maybe learn how these top rods perform with the added incentive that Scotland could possibly become world champions on home territory.
Later in the month, over on the Isle of Islay, it is the turn of the Commonwealth team to do Scotland proud.
The team are going for a unique record of winning the championships for the third consecutive time. Only England and Australia have ever won it back-to-back.
To do it in Scotland would be the icing on the cake for the squad. The competition waters are the same as the European championships last held on the island in 2003 which include the world famous Loch Gorm.
Commonwealth individual winner John McCallum is out to retain his title which he won in a very tight finish, as is Ian Jones, the fly-tying champion who completed the treble for the Scots.
