ANDRIUS VELICKA is on his way out of Hearts as the Evening News can reveal that Norwegian club Viking Stavanger have agreed a fee for the top-scoring Lithuanian.
The fee is understood to be in excess of £1 million but Velicka himself is not yet thought to have agreed personal terms.

The move is sure to infuriate Hearts fans who will be concerned at the lack of striking options left for interim boss Stevie Frail.

Velicka was ruled out of tomorrow's crucial clash with third-placed Motherwell due to injury but he probably would not have played anyway as his move to Norway was finalised.

Viking's director of football, former Rangers forward Egil Ostenstad, decided to move for the Lithuanian, who has scored 14 goals this season, after watching him in last month's CIS Cup semi-final defeat to Rangers.

He was impressed by Velicka's workrate and was able to make his move as the Norwegian transfer window does not close until April 1.

Viking recently broke their club record transfer fee to sign Czech forward Martin Pillo from Viktoria Plzen at a cost of £900,000.

They will have broken it again to land Velicka, who is officially on loan to Hearts from FBK Kaunas.

Velicka won the Lithuanian League seven times with Kaunas, and lifted the Lithuanian Cup three times.

As well as his 14 strikes so far this term, the 28-year-old was Hearts' top goalscorer last season with 12 goals in all competitions.

The striker has hit some crucial goals for the Jambos since his arrival 18 months ago, including the double which saw Hearts knock Celtic out of the CIS Cup with a 2-0 win at Parkhead.

He also bagged a brace a fortnight ago in the victory over Gretna – a side which Hearts had previously never beaten over 90 minutes.

After Hearts did not sign any new forwards during the transfer window, and with Mauricio Pinilla injured, Frail's striking options now appear to consist of Christian Nade, Calum Elliot and Ricardas Beniusis.

Czech striker Michal Pospisil was sold to Belgian side Sint Truiden in January.

Seems like a money grab here.
This indicates a cash crisis hitting home.
A bad move as Velicka was a Lithuanian success and the replacements do not appear to be up to it.
Still, we will find out about Beniusis now.

Unbelievable on both parts. This signals Vlads intention to cash in on the jambos. It is also an unbelievably poor career move for Velicka.
Vlad you are a disgrace to sport.

Ah, Mr. Vlad gets another million+ out of the Yams. Next stop, launderette.

It won't go on the new stadium development (stop sniggering at the back!!), will it ? Will it go towards reducing the debt ? Nope.

Just where does all this transfer cash from Swinecastle go ?

Vlad's hipper, maybe ?

This surely confirms Romanov's current policy regarding Hearts: sell anyone worth some money. This move makes no sense for the player and more importantly no sense at all for Hearts. To sell Heart's best striker outwith the transfer window so Hearts can't even replace him shows absolutely no regard for the football club or fans who have stood by a poor team this season.

#4. Where has all the transfer cash gone at Fester Road?

Hearts have an huge debt so an offer of £1m+ was bound to be tempting. It seems Velicka has been swayed by the opportunity to play in Europe next season, fair enough. I think he will regret it in the long term though.

As for Hearts, please, please, please Frail - don't put Elliot in!

#10. If you read #4 post very carefully (which I know is difficult for the likes of you), you will see that the idiot concerned has an ill-informed pop at Hearts, whereas it is just as easy to ask where the hobo transfer cash is - maybe you can say where the money at Fester Road is?

#13. I'm not trying to jusify anything and I certainly don't have to answer to anyone for my opinions thank you.

I don't go in for knee-jerk reactions, I leave that to the less well balanced in our society. The fact is that Velicka became very unhappy earlier in the season when Nade was getting picked ahead of him. I personally have been critical of Velicka's performances at times and in my opinion he deserved to find himself out of the side when he did. It is strange how Velicka's performances have improved over the past couple of games when he knew Viking were looking at him.

Just for clarity - Hearts' best performance this season was 4-2 at home to Rangers, Hearts played with Nade and Ksanavicius up front, no Velicka in sight.

#15 What new stand? So what if your debt is reduced, where are the players? Are you happy to be also-ran feeders for the old firm? You have no knowledge of the salaries at hibs, so why claim that you do?

Finally, do you feel like a big man now that you have called me a name? What a pathetic individual you are.
16

The Independent Republic of Section N,

22/02/2008 17:10:11
#16 I think it's unfair to say Velicka's performances have improved only over the last couple of games as he has easily been our top striker all season.

The odd poor game but generally the top man.

I don;t go in for knee-jerk reactions - that's why I tolerated Burley being sacked and replaced by a paedophile, to be replaced by a uselss puppet, to be replaced by a senile fool, to be replaced by an under-qualified puppet. I still go even though we are playing guys who have come from a vastly inferior league, I still go even though I have witnessed the holocausts we call Kurskis, Klimek, Ivaskivicius. I still go even though better players are frozen out due to the smallest sign of dissent. I still go even though I do not believe for a single minute that I will sit in a new stand. And I still go even though i KNOW things are going to get a lot worse before they get better.

So it isn;t a knee-jerk reaction, ok?

20

Jam Tarts 1874,

On the Rebound 22/02/2008 17:15:12
#21. Simply by calling me a mug and not seeing the bigger picture makes it a knee jerk reaction. Sometimes players are sold and that is that. I remember Bannon being sold at the worst possible time, but it kept Hearts afloat at the time, it happens!
21

The Independent Republic of Section N,

22/02/2008 17:18:48
#26 Tell me what the bigger picture is then

What do we hope to achieve by selling our top (only) scorer for a fee which, to me, seems small.

Are we selling Velicka to keep us afloat? Or maybe it's clearing the way for a top striker to replace him? Hmm??

Don;t let the big picture cloud the small picture which is that we are selling off quality and not replacing them. Did you not read the warning signs when Gordon left to be replaced by Banks?

22

Dear Jam Tarts 1874

The reason we nice people comment on your troubles is to educate you inwhat is going on in your club.Don't you understand-Hearts don't own Velicka therefore the transfer fee does not come to you.Hearts just have the pleasure of paying his wages while the benefit goes elsewhere.Hibs transfer fees-according to our published accounts(where are yours by the way-not overdo surey)go into the Hibs bank account.Hasit also escaped your notice that we appear to be having a slightly better season than you do.

Pile of shyte.
I said when this was first mooted that if we sold Velicka, especially after the transfer window closed, it would tell us everything we need to know about the current regime. No ambition at all. Frail can blabber all he wants about Europe, top 6 finishes, but if this is what the board are up to then it's all just pissing in the wind.

This has a definite element of final straw for me (or should that be final final straw??).

For the millionth time to the believers - we can only judge this mob on their actions not their words. And their actions are to sell our top scorer at a point where we can't bring in a new one. No club in the world with any hint of ambition would do that. None.
So that's it. The season's up. The games a bogey. The board don't give a flyingfuck, why should the players, why should the fans? I'd suggest the boycott plans be dusted off, but I've tried that here before to no avail. Some fans clearly stopped caring some time ago too.

29

bonspeil,

22/02/2008 17:30:37
#28, 29 and 30 three muppets of the highest order. First, Velicka has not actually been sold if he hasn't agreed personal terms. Second, Hibs and Hearts fans have both been complaining about the size of the debt and squad - now both are being reduced as fast as they were increased. Good IMO.

Third, this season is a complete write-off. We're not getting relegated, we won't get into Europe, we may get into the top 6 if we're lucky. We have a very promising crop of young players champing at the bit by all accounts. Perhaps we have ditched the expensive loan signings policy and are going to go with some youngsters or more targeted signings.

This is a good thing. Yes, Velicka has been our best player recently, but for ages he was criticised as much as Miko. Our fortunes are tied up with one owner, like many clubs. It's amazing teh rubbish some of you come out with. You've been having a go at all the Liths, the squad size, the loan signings, the wages, the debt - we've reduced it VERY substantially after the "speculate to accumulate" strategy failed somewhat - and now you're having a go for doing what you said we should be doing anyhow!

So mr ancient Hibee, exactly how are you educating us about our club when, if we sell velicka, this means less Liths, less debt, small squad, lower wage bill - something I believe you think is a good thing?
30

Ancient Hibee,

edinburgh 22/02/2008 17:35:27
I understand that serious accountants willing to have anything to do with Hearts books are very thin on the ground. The much bigger company you are a part of does not seem to be making much headway with the newly acquired(but not paid for)building in St.Andrew Square.Has that bank branch opened in Castle Street yet(due last year)?I'm afraid the big cheerio is starting.

#40 Why would I care about St Andrews Sq and castle St or Ukio? I don't. I'm a football fan. More importantly, why would you care? That's an unhealthy obsession you've got going there. Do you look at every new Kwik-Fit outlet Farmer buys? Honestly, follow your own team rather than pinning all your hopes on the demise of your local rival. Because - newsflash - it ain't going to happen.

#37 I can only assume you're on the wind up.
How anyone can still be so Vlad blind that they have found the positive spin on this an hour after it's been announced is beyond me!
We have sold our top scorer. We will not be buying a new striker til next season. Our other strikers have 7 goals between them this season. Nade isn't fit enough to manage a whole match, neither is Beniusis. Which leaves Elliot. There is no positive to this. At all. Lack of ambition. Lack of respect for the fans. An absolute 100% disgrace. I have probably never felt so let down by this regime, and we've all been through a hell of a lot with them so far. But this? This is as low as we've got. He's not even that bloody good! But he was the best we have right now. And £1m is too much to turn down for him? When we can't buy a replacement?! Bollokcs.

This is absolutely bl@@dy unbelievable. I am trying to examine this from every angle but it does not make sense. I should save myself a fortune in travelling and just pop along to see Killie - they also may be gash at the moment but at least they are honest and up-front. C'mon Hearts - tell the fans (the people who pay your grossly inflated salaries) what is going on. Reveal the hidden agenda. The supporters deserve no less.

#43 My point is - who cares? This season is done. I don't care if we finish 8th or 7th, or even 6th. We've finished above Hibs more often than not so I'm not even that bothered about finishing behind them this season, although I still think they'll blow up as usual. I would rather look forward and I am pleased the spend first, think later policy seems to have stopped. I'm also pleased we're taking our time getting a manager as this season is completely done for us so it doesn't matter.

As for Velicka, most people would have jumped at 1m for him 5 months ago. Arguably Nade is a better long-term prospect when he gets fit - Velicka was like him at first - slow and rubbish. Bennyuseless had a better pedigree at Kaunas - who know,s he could come good as Velicka eventually did. Knee-jerks all round.

All this talk of us not buying players. Isn't that a good sign? We're looking for a manager so why sign players he may not like?

Way Out West,

22/02/2008 18:32:22
Surely even Stevie Wonder would realise now that Vlad is a conman and that Hearts are going nowhere under him. The club is just his plaything and fans have bought into his lies.

The reality is this:

There will no Hearts team capable of challenging for the league, either now or in the future; no world-class manager at Tynecastle; no new stand built; and no hope of this scenario ever improving in the short-term. Were it not for Gretna, Hearts would have been relegation material.

As Mixu 6-2 would say, "ha-ha-ha-ha" to all those who have bought into Vlad's lies. I didn't, and can only say that "I told you so".

It is time for action from the supporters NOW, before the club is driven even further into the ground.
48

bonspeil,

22/02/2008 18:40:00
Riiiight, it's all an elaborate con to get a piece of land in Edinburgh, conveniently ignoring the fact there was a deal in place to sell the land when he took over, which he cancelled. This con includes pretending to want to develop the stadium by hiring one of the top stadium architects around, buying bad players deliberately and paying them huge wages, losing games on purpose, ruining his business reputation on purpose, pretending to buy two properties in central Edinburgh. Riiiiight.

And they say Hearts fans are deluded! Could it not just be he's made bad decisions and is an egomaniac? But no, no, it's all a huge con - that's a much ore logical explanation.
49

Vlad Magic,

#60. Well if he is going to do that he'll lose a lot of money as he won't get back what he's paid out, not to mention loss of face. Two things he doesn't like losing. Exactly who will buy Hearts in their current state? No-one. And if he just winds the club up, he'll lose out.

A much better strategy is to try to develop the club further, using a different strategy than the one he started with. Which, IMO, is what he will do.

Ukio INvestment Group is trying to make a name for by funding large projects. They want to fund the Hearts stadium because it's in Western Europe and will help them get similar projects.

It's about time we all start getting behind the board and respect their decisions. I'm not a businessman but Vlad hasn't got where he is today without knowing what he's doing. He has our best interests at heart. I've heard that Beniusis is looking very sharp in training, so it makes sense to cash in when we've got an ideal and ready made replacement.

Yes i admit i am a Hibs fan and this is a Hearts thread, but you guys really have to wake up and see what is happening. This is not a pi$$ take, i genuinely will be upset when you guys end up relegated next year or even worse buy the name Clydebank ot come back as Jambo Utd as HoMFC has so much debt accredited to it that the company name is unusable.

You really have to oust Vlad and get rid of the Liths and the loans. this £1M has gone to FBK Kaunas, they own Velicka, even tho Vlad owns the group, hearts won't see a penny.

I would agree with you about asset striping etc, Vlad/UBIG are trying to broaden there portfolio in Scotland and eventually the rest of the UK, to do this they are hardly going to damage Hearts and thereby there own standing and credibility, however I just wonder how much damage they have to there reputation as it is with the goings on at Tynecastle since the day George Burley left.

#81 I don't understand your point. Finishing above Hibs is kind of a habit for me - I grew up watching Hearts dominate the derby from mid-80's onwards, with a few blips. It's certainly not considered a good season to finish above them.

#85 In the last three years I've seen some of the best players I've ever seen wearing the Hearts shirt and I've seen some bad ones, but definitely not the worst. But then what would you know about Hearts players pre-Romanov, seeing as you're in Lithuania, right? Name Walter Mitty mean anything to you?

Just got home from work and read this story. Would love to say it's unbelievable but, unfortunately, it is not.

Granted, the season is over, and has been since we exited the League Cup, but to seel our top scorer with 12 games to go is disgraceful, especially when we have NOBODY in the squad to replace him.

Seems that a Beniusis and Elliot partnership will see the season out now.

The horror, the horror.
73

walter,

Surely the headline should have read "FBK Kaunas sell Velicka".
It is impossible for Hearts or any other club who have a player on loan to sell that player.

Salvatori,

Just demonstrates that HMFC have given up any hope of a top 6 finish for the season. Absolute joke. Now watch the "abilities" of Mole, Elliot, Benny get ramped up beyond all comprehension by Frail and co.

One thing though... will personal terms actually be agreed? Norwegian football FFS ... wouldn't fancy it myself if I wanted to progress my career as footballer, so there may be another twist yet. CG afterall refused a move a Russia and that could yet happen here.

Oh just great!!!!

Here was I, nice and happy after just having finished work, so thought I might as well have a quick check on the internet before continuing on my merry way.

WHAAAMM!! BLAM!!! KERRRRPOW!!!!

Vlad lands yet another devastating on my chin.

Was really looking forward to the start of the weekend but this most definitely wasn't how I was hoping it would kick off.

Ach well, I suppose I should thank Vlad for introducing me to a genuinly new feeling - that of wishing I was a Hibs supporter so I could have a right good old laugh at this latest one-liner from the footie world's favourite sit-com down Tynie way.

Think there might be something lost in the translation though as I can't even summon up the slightest hint of a giggle, strangled sob might be closer to the mark.

I know I shouldn't be even vaguely surprised any more but...

Ach well, I suppose there's still beer in my fridge and whisky & Drambuie on the shelf. So I think I'll be off home to pour myself a large rusty nail to quoff as I iron my Scotland top - for some strange reason I suddenly don't feel quite so inclined to wear my Hearts top for my afternoon footie match mañana.

Just another thought though... has anyone actually confirmed this as being true??!! The only mention of this I can find is right here in the EEN, and they've never actually been wrong about anything have they?

It might be blind optimism, and I'm no Vlad apologist but if it can make the last edition of the EEN, then why no mention anywhere else?

If Velicka goes then that's it, I will not be renewing my season ticket, as for the remaining games, if anyone wants a McLeod St ticket for the rest of this disastrous season they can have it. I am now going to look around for somewhere else to watch my football, it certainly won't be at Easter Road, I'd rather go and watch Linlithgow Rose, Bo'ness or some other team with a 'Scottish' history, there's less heartache there.

We will NOT be getting any new manager in the near future either! I don`t blame the hobos coming on this forum and slagging this circus that is going on down at tynie!...I would be slagging us off if i was a Hibby!

#93 BBC web-page is also reporting it.

Slightly different angle though; Bid accepted but no personal terms as of yet.

So it might not quite be the final death knell for our top striker (...or should that be ONLY), think he's entered the realms of the living dead.

So on a par with what's left of our strike force.

Actually come to think of it, maybe zombiefication could be our remaining answer to STRIK-ing fear into the hearts of the opposition.

Right, I REALLY do need to go and get a beer methinks!!!!

99 - Yep, this article also states personal terms haven't been agreed yet just like the BBC. There has been so much sh*te reported in the press about Hearts over recent years that it is is difficult to sort the truth from the lies.

Even the link posted by the Stavanger fan somewhere above has a question mark in the caption under Velicka's photo and although I can't read Norweegie it all points to the fact that this is all conjecture at this point until confirmed by the club, or until or even if Velicka signs.

Don't get me wrong though, it wouldn't surprise me if it did happen, and I'll voice my disdain and concern if it does.

Sell him, he is (currently!) overrated.
Not so long ago he was in the same bracket as Miko,Kestutis and Pillybiter.

One of the key parts of Vlad's plan was to say to new players ( Lithuanians and others) was that through Hearts , if you are good enough you could go on to greater things.

Unfortunately with a few exceptions, a lot of Vlad's signings have been gash.

However Velicka is an exception, he is paid peanuts, and his example could be used as the first success story of Vlad's initial strategy.

Chill out bell-ends!

You can actually come 6th in this league at the end of the season but the 7th or 8th team has more points than you (yes granted the final run of games are different) but it just points out the fact that the split is a pointless farce anyway IMO.

Hearts supporters need to support their team with some tough love! Go to Rangers games, Hibs games, Celtic games, any other club's games! Stay at home and watch the tube. Do anything but support the current regime.

If you continue to support the current regime, after the assets are all gone and Vlad is long gone, you all will be wishing you were Gretna fans.

Hearts have a long and proud history, save it!

for me, from the posts above, the one that makes the most sense is #84 vic.....

we have to keep in mind the recent rumour about vlad selling his stake in hearts to progress ubig's plans to develop tynie into an uber-complex etc.

So with Vlad out of the mix the whole Kaunas thing will hopefully have had his day - but if Vlad goes - lets not forge that he didn't totally overwhelm us with Kaunas wannabees, he allowed players like Driver, Stewart and Berra to develop, not to mention bringing in Larry, Ruben and Eggy. I'm not saying Vlad wasn't like Mr Bean from his fantasy football manager exploits though....because he was.

And if the rumour is just a rumour and Vlad ain't going - I'm crushed but, again I'm reserving judgement until we see who the manager is (please not Volgts!!!) and what players are bought in the summer transfer window.

As for Velicka, I've always liked him, despite it being hard to really have an opinion for so long when the player line up changed like the wind on the forth bridge.

Velicka is only 28-year-old and with 14 strikes so far this term, it seems crazy not to capture him and I worry that this among all other signs at Tynie shows Vlad's hand that hmfc is just a truck-stop (to go one better than the hibee's bus shelter gag) for players and money...allegedly. I really hope not?

Velicka being Hearts' top goalscorer last season with only 12 goals in all competitions just sums up how we are declining as a club....its not as if our midfield made up for the lack of strike force.

The sad fact is that hmfc have let in more goals than both OF teams added together and if Velicka is our top scorer, it just reflects that our "Mgt" think its safer to hide behind defensive tactics...clearly they've never heard of the SAS maxim:

'he who dares wins'!!

In most games and against most teams, we don't have enough shots at goal.

The number of shots on goal or of target during the last 2 seasons has been poor.

Celtic were lucky
124

THE BPRENTICE,

cont......

Celtic were lucky having 2 shots on goal and 2 goals from it at one point against Barcelona, despite the Catalans' shots on goal being in the double figs with no goals from it....the quality came through in the end.

I don't think playing any non-OF team, we should be tucking in like we are facing Barcelona and hopefully new mgt and fresh players in the summer will be a sea-change?!

I don't fear change - I crave it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

#167 vic is looking forward and anticipating the potential times a changin...its been a really bad season for us.

Meanwhile your crew aren't too far in front and in fact, if hibs didn't have such an outstanding start and Gretna crumbling, you guys might have been staring relegation in the face.

Next season will be interesting, if its status quo with hfc, it could be a rough ride as your chariman doesn't seem to care about competing.

I hope this season has been a kick in the ubig panties and things will improve on the pitch....but you just never know what's going to happen next at Tynie.....time will tell.

Apart from fielding some dodgy keepers, fronting revolutions, getting foiled by some bad refereeing and both not being too keen on the 'wee arrow people' that wash in from the weedge and also from our midst.......What both edinburgh clubs mainly have in common is that: the majority shareholders in both haven't felt that competing and investing to get their clubs into europe was the main mission statement?! Arguably.

Dublin.Hibs,

good luck against motherwell, whatever happens i wont be dissapointed with the result from ravenscraig today
132

THE BPRENTICE,

23/02/2008 13:20:18
#172 what I was alluding to was if you looked at hibs' form from the 2nd quarter of games onward, it doesn't look good....that can be dangerous for you guys, as a sense of urgency isn't maybe there because the initial great start has masked how the hfc team have plateaued at such a dangerously low level.

Having a go at hibs is fun but in reality I wouldn't want hibs to relegated, I'd rather see St Mirren have that privelege.

Seriously, I think Hibs should be a lot more worried by the cash'n'grab approach your majority shareholders have taken.

As for hearts, I question the timing of the Velicka story - I suspect a jackboot from the media because lets face it - if we don't get a decent from the Well game......it will start to get a bit ugly.

Then it'll be cue the white hunters showing the native the ticking watches aka glittering new stadium models and proferring of new manager names.

Oh WELL ... we've still got E-L-L-I-O-T !!!!! phone home quick!

LyonHearts,

We are looking extremly limited in the striking department with the sale of Velicka - but he's gone so we'll just have to get on with it!

Eliot is turning into the new Miko in terms of popularity with the fans! Nade needs a decent strike partner as he can't play alone up front and Beniusis didn't have the best of starts!

Looks like we may be heading for our first bottom six finish in many years!
