CALUM ELLIOT returns to the Hearts squad against Motherwell tomorrow night and is poised to play his first competitive match under Csaba Laszlo following a successful loan period at Livingston.
Laszlo is impressed with the striker's 11-goal return from 14 games in the First Division and has immediately reinstated him in the hope of according Hearts a cutting edge in attack.

"Calum came back yesterday and this is a new opportunity for him
," said the manager. "He showed his talent in the First Division and scored 11 goals there. It was my intention to take him back and hopefully the form he showed at Livingston he can show for us.

"If you look at the games against Dundee United and Hibernian, we lost four points. If we had more luck with scoring, we would have four points more in the league.

"I am not unsatisfied with the team's performance, I am more unsatisfied that we don't have the killer instinct. This is something we must work on."

Elliot was hopeful of renewing his loan agreement and returning to Almondvale but must endeavour to maximise his opportunities at Hearts until further notice. Jason Thomson is precluded from the trip to Fir Park after suffering concussion against Hibernian on Saturday but Marius Zaliukas and Lee Wallace return from suspension.

Laszlo will take a late decision on the fitness of Greek defender Christos Karipidis, who sustained an ankle injury against Hibs and left Tynecastle on crutches after the match. He was rated doubtful this morning but should be available for Sunday's Scottish Cup fourth round tie at Easter Road.

"We will look at Karipidis but maybe he will not be available," said Laszlo. "If he does not play at Motherwell he will definitely be ready for Sunday."

I'd like to see Elliot given another chance at Hearts... he's on form at the minute, even tho he's been playing in the first division.

An outing at motherwell would at least give the laddie a chance to play without being subject to the pressure put on him at Tynecastle.

#1 Agree 100%. Elliot showed some real promise when he first came into the first team as a teenager, but then had a big confidence crisis which the fans didn't help. Hopefully his stint in Livingston will have got him back to the promisig young player he was, and if he can bang in a few goals ainst Motherwell and Hibs, we may have a ready-made solution to our striking problem, especially as Glen seems to be coming back into Lazlo's plans too....

We have put him on loan to prove himself and he has banged them in, he rightly has earned a 2nd chance at Hearts and I hope it works out.
Though last season it was hard to see he how he would become a footballer.

Anyone doubting his pedigree as a provider or finisher should watch our Cup Quarter Final against Aberdeen in 2006. Calum definately has ability in abundance but this will not shine through if he doesn't receive backing and encouragement from the fans in the stands when things go wrong.

To all those who criticise too easily "Stop the booing and slagging and watch him prosper for the side."

he is getting a chance cause he has clearly screwed the head and been working at livi. all we expect is the same thing. we didnt get that from him before, we got a toys out the pram, huffy premadonna who acted like a spoiled child.

#2 he didnt help the fans never mind this fans are to blame for elliotts disgraceful attitude stance.
he only started getting booed after his shocking performances. nobody decided lets boo calum elliott for nothing.

but its a fresh start and HE has the chance. good luck to him and his goals could be just what we need.

Shabba seems like an excellent man manager so lets see if he can rekindle Clum's career at Tynie

Right at this minute, I dont see anything to lose by taking Elliot back. Koo's airse with a banjo springs to mind, meanwhile Elliot has banged them in, albeit at a lower level, but you can do no more than score as he has done.
Motherwell was always one of his happier hunting grounds as well, so you never know.

#8 Nothing fickle about it
The lad left with a bad attitude and a major dummy spitting problem
Looks like he has buckled down and given his goals per game ratio he is rightly being given another chance
I will support him 100% and everyone who is a regular knows i was no lover of Elliot and will be delighted to be proved wrong

Calum took a lot of abuse from some of the Hearts supporters, and that led to him losing his confidence, if the boo boys back him instead of hurling abuse at the lad, im sure he will start to bang in the goal for us. Hope he will be staying as i have always liked him, he is only a youngster, so please let him settle back at Tynecastle, and he may just prove the doubters wrong. C"mon the JTs

There's no doubt Elliott got a hard time from the fans, but that was down to him. The way he sulked about the pitch, his poor body language etc. He should be delighted to be pulling on a Hearts jersey. I'm happy to give him a chance, but I hope he is told in no uncertain terms to improve his attitude.

and more importantly, he only needs to score 2 goals between now and the end of the season to be Hearts top scoring striker. Even this duffer can manage that,.......... cant he?

Glad to see the only negative comments have come from the east side. Quite rightly we should all be backing his return to Tynecastle in the hope and belief that he has learnt his lesson, and that he becomes the player, many in the game have predicted he would. Good luck to the boy !!

#9 - well said.

I'm happy for him to be given another chance too - and I really hope he does well.

I don't care if it's the Queen Mum playing up front for Hearts, so long as they score goals. That's what Elliot needs to do to win over the fans.

It's his job, so he should manage that fine.

I remember the 3-2 defeat at Tynie against Celtic a couple of years back when Brines decided to give them the title by sending Fyssas off after a dive by Maloney.

Elliot was outstanding that day and looked a £5 mill striker. A combination of bad luck, lack of application and pressure from fans contributed to the season we had last year from him.

If he's got the confidence back and applies himself the fans will be back on side in no time. Elliot and HMFC will be the winners.

#15 ..Just because the rest of the Yams cant be ersed commenting on the boy as he is sheeeite! Still he has a better record than Fatty Boom Boom Nade..1 in 20 eh.. well worth 10 grand a week!

Elliot has always been a good prospect, the reason he got such a hard time is because we had nothing up front and he had the responsibility to get the goals for the Hearts team. This was a big ask for someone so young. He needed our support and we kicked him when he was down.
So all Hearts fans, lets get behind him the way we should for all our players. Give the lad a chance.

#18 Pots and kettles fella. Wasn't that long ago you and your fellow wee team supporters were calling Riordan all the names of the day for running along the M8 to sign for Celtic, yet you greeted his return like that of the Messiah. Not quite the same with us with Elliott. We're quite clear that if he shows the application and desire, he will get a 2nd chance. Good piece of advice for you, IF YOU HAVE NOTHING CONSTRUCTIVE TO SAY, BETTER TO SAY NOTHING AT ALL !!!

I just do not believe that Elliott will ever come good.

We have taken first division strikers before (hello Dennis Wyness) and they have failed to score consistently at this higher level. Elliott is a first division player...it's that simple.

If you want to make it into the top six, let alone Europe, you need players of better quality than this.

I would be much more pleased if we could find the funds to bring in the likes of Porter who has a proven track record in this league. That, I suspect, may well prove not to be possible even if we do see the sale of some of our more "valuable" assets.

#19 lets get it staright thats NOT the reason he got pelters!!! nothing to do with goals or lack of etc
his bad attitude, lack of application, stupid decision making, huffs, general lack of interest were the contributing factors.

if he comes back and addresses the above issues thats all we want. someone who looks interested and applies themselves in the correct manner. if he doesnt score it wont really matter as long as he applies himself.

im not his biggest fan thats for sure but will give him the chance to prove himself to have grown up.
