FORMER Scotland international Craig Burley has blasted the Scottish Football Association for allowing a decision on the future of national boss Berti Vogts to linger on.
The German is widely expected to leave his post after an SFA board meeting on Tuesday following the embarrassing 1-1 draw in Moldova 11 days ago.
The result in Chisinau left Scottish World Cup hopes in tatters with just two points from their open
ing three games.
Many of the travelling Scotland supporters called for Vogts to leave his position after the game in Moldova. However, due to club commitments in European competition last week, certain members of the full SFA board were not available to meet.
SFA president John McBeth and chief executive David Taylor began talks on the future of Vogts with vice-presidents Campbell Ogilvie, George Peat and John Smith on Friday.
But Burley insists any decision should have been made far earlier. The former Celtic midfielder told the Sunday Times: "It is ridiculous that it took until Friday - nine days after the dismal draw in Moldova - before the SFA finally got round the table, their meeting ending with no decision on Vogts’ future, let alone any move to find his successor.
"Why did it take so long to get the delegates together to make one of the most important decisions Scottish football has faced in years?
"Why is it taking them so long to put right the mistake they made by appointing him in the first place? What could possibly take priority for these people?
"We are told that they have not had the opportunity to meet before now. Mobile telephones and conference calling have not reached the SFA yet, apparently.
"That we have waited this long is disgraceful. This decision was a no-brainer and could have been taken immediately after the match in Moldova or, at the very latest, last weekend.
"Now, when they finally do get together, no decision is reached. There is a meeting to arrange a meeting. Not until Tuesday will the full SFA board - the men in charge of Scottish football - make their call."
