A FORMER inmate has been found murdered in woodland just two days after being released from Saughton Prison.
The body of James Taylor, 29, from Wester Hailes, was discovered by members of the public in a wooded area near Nethan Street in Motherwell at around 4.50pm on Sunday.
Police in Motherwell have launched a murder inquiry following a post mortem examination which was carried out last night.
Relatives of the victim have been informed.
Detective Chief Inspector Jim King, the officer in charge of the investigation, said: "Forensic experts have been carrying out a detailed examination at the scene since Mr Taylor's body was discovered.
"Our enquiries are progressing, albeit the investigation is still at an early stage. We are presently trying to establish his last movements and will be examining all available CCTV footage.
"We are aware that Mr Taylor was released from Saughton Prison at 10am on Friday October 17, and it is highly important that anyone who has been in contact with him since his release contacts us.
"I would also urge anyone who has been in the area of Nethan Street between Friday and Sunday who may have witnessed anything of a suspicious nature to come forward."
Officers have set up an incident caravan at the scene.
