HUNDREDS of thousands of Lebanese flooded Beirut city centre to mourn an assassinated Christian politician and vent their anger at Syria.
Observers believe the country could be gearing up for a potentially explosive fight over power with the radical Hezbollah faction and other allies of Damascus.

Church bells tolled and women threw flowers and rice on Pierre Gemayel's coffin, draped in the flag of his Phalange Party, as it was passed hand-to-hand over the dense crowd of mourners outside St Georges Cathedral yesterday.

Nearby, in Martyrs' Square, a throng of supporters, estimated at 800,000 by police, turned the funeral into a mass show of force in support of the beleaguered US-backed government.

Amid a sea of Lebanese flags, demonstrators chanted slogans against Syria, which they accuse of killing 34-year-old politician Mr Gemayel, and burned pictures of Syrian president Bashar Assad and his top ally in Lebanon, president Emile Lahoud.

"We want revenge - from Lahoud and Bashar," the crowd chanted.

The "Press" are really pushing it was Syria.. although they have no evidence.. This stinks all the way to Tel Aviv and begs some Big Questions!

Who is behind the media?... Israel

Who stands to benefit most by turning the Lebanese against Syria and Hezbollah?... Israel

What did Syria have to benefit by the assasination?...
Nothing.. as the assasination turns opinion against Syria and Hezbollah.

What did Hezbollah have to benefit by the assasination?...
Nothing.. as it has turned opinion against Syria.
They had to cancel a rally that could have ousted the Lebanese Government.

Did Sinora's Government benefited by the assasination?...
Yes, People's opinion turned against Syria and Hezbollah
Yes, Hezbollah's rally cancelled
Yes, Potential Presidential Candidate Eliminated

Other thoughts....
Sinora's Government did little or nothing to defend Lebanon when Israel Attacked...

Perhaps Sinora's Government was in collusion with Israel to get rid of Hezbollah??.. Ie., the Israelis did not target Lebanese Military or Christian Targets in the North.

I think it's more likely a CIA black operation. Bush & co won't be happy that Syria were being invited to the table to try and bring peace to the region. They would know that Syria were the obvious ones that would be blamed.
