Translations cost NHS £20k

MORE than £20,000 was spent by NHS Lothian on translating its website and a variety of leaflets and publications into foreign languages.
Figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show that the figure is rising substantially year-on-year, with only £6800 spent two years ago.

The range of languages being made available by the health board is also on the rise; in 2005/06 material was translated into 13 languages, but this has risen to 22.

Tapes and documents in braille and large print have also been produced.

Rather than get them translated as and when required they do as the normal hence wasting money. A lot of the time there is no need for the translation to be done as there is no demand.
