CONTROVERSIAL Bishop Gene Robinson was given a warm welcome when he visited into a city church.
Following high-profile appearances in Edinburgh and Glasgow the openly gay bishop, who was barred from the recent Lambeth Conference, attended St Columba's-by-the-Castle Episcopal Church and was welcomed with applause.

He was invited to preach and
to lead the Communion service, something which he had been prohibited from doing in England.

He told church goers: "This is not St Columba's Church's table, it is Gods' table. No-one is excluded from God's Table" before saying he was looking forward to meeting his greatest critic, Archbishop Akinola from Nigeria in Heaven. "I tell you , we're both going to be there," he said.

The 61-year-old Episcopalian Bishop of New Hampshire has, since 2004, been described as 'the most controversial Christian in the world', having been elected as a Bishop in spite of his open admission that he lives in a same-sex relationship.

A church spokesman said: "Like thousands of visitors who have found the small door off Castle Terrace open, the Bishop had come to worship with an ecumenical congregation, which has always expressed a non-judgemental sharing of faith."

Good for him, it's about time the Catholic Church got out of the dark ages. I would love to see some of the anger this stirs up among backward uneducated God fearers.Oh and before I get a barrage of hate from you Jesus freaks watch this http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/

If someone like Pastor Jack Glass had visited an obscure little church like this one,I doubt very much if the headline...
"City Welcomes Pastor" would have been used.

#4 What are you talking about? I was at 5am mass this morning! Any kids I catch swearing, I wash their gubs out thorougly with soap. I'm open to the fact that there could have been a very nice man called Jesus who existed 2000 years ago I just don't believe the fairy tales about him.

Ah-men! There is a lot of gay ministers so why all the fuss over a gay bishop? I know several gay ministers and I've never had a problem with them.

The Episcopal Church in Scotland is so open it had an self-confessed atheist as its head. Step forward Richard Holloway.

The fact is that Jesus Christ himself was not recorded by one single gospel writer as having sounded off bigotry and hate-speak towards gays. Surprisingly, HIS message was about loving everyone. But trivial facts like this won't stop legions of Christian hate-mongers from rewriting his message, because they know better! OF COURSE Christ was a closet gay-basher, like modern Christians. He just forgot to mention it!

This is a very sad occasion. The distortion of Christ's work to suit individuals opinions always hurts us all. There is no doubt God sent his Son for all men, but Christ died for 'sinners' not perfect people.
Homosexuality is one of the many faults for which Jesus died, and if it was not a fault this would be indicated in scripture. To be accepted under the blood of Christ means accepting his way, not ours. This means putting aside our opinions and following him, whether it costs us or not.
This Bishop fails to obey his God and threatens to take others into his misunderstanding, possibly well meant, but wrong nonetheless, and his decision to put his will before Gods must be opposed.
There are many things we all must turn from if we wish to follow Jesus, the fashion of the day is one of them.

"Homosexuality is one of the many faults for which Jesus died"

It was always going to be a risk, hanging out with fishermen.

"I'm gay", said the actress to the disappointed Bishop.

The thin edge of the wedge? Hmm, or a thick one!

#13,
"and if it was not a fault this would be indicated in scripture. "
The scriptures were written long after his death and translated from langauge to language... there are few facts in the scriptures. Its the message not the stories we have been told that are important.Being gay is not a barrier to having a belief or being able to teach about love and respect.. sadly lacking in some vocal "christians"

The fact of the matter, is, if gays could get away with it, Homosexuals would indulge in anything, and everything!

And I don't say this lightly.

They would even SEDUCE ANGELS if they had the opportunity.

"bring them [angels] out unto US, that we may know [rape] them" (Genesis 19:4-5).

Like today, those gays who felt the literal fire from heaven, saw nothing wrong in that kind of unnatural affection.

And something else that should be very worrying for gays living today - who are also Atheists - at least the gays of those days believed that God existed! Unfortunately, their aknowledgement of a creator, still couldn't save them, because they needed someone whose blood would forgive them!

(meaning they had to believe in someone who forgave their sins, Jesus Christ).
