STUDENTS at Harvard University have branded JK Rowling a "flash in the pan" and not important enough to give their graduation speech.
The Harry Potter author has been invited to give the most important speech of the year at the institution in June. But a row has broken out after some students complained they deserved better.

She will be following in the footsteps of Microsoft boss Bill Gates, Benazir Bhutto, former Irish president Mary Robinson and US secretary of state Madeleine Albright.

Student Adam Goldenberg wrote in the university's newspaper: "Harvard seniors have every right to demand a Harvard-calibre speaker. Harry Potter – and JK Rowling – is a flash in the pan."
