Published Date: 21 February 2009
Hibs miserable run in Inverness continued as the Ednburgh club made it seven visits to the Capital of the Highlands without a win, goals from David Proctor and Richie Foran consigning Mixu Paatelainen's team to yet another defeat.
In six previous trips north Hibs had managed but a solitary goal but what those die-hard fans who made the long journey today would have given even to see a single shot on Ryan Esson's goal, the Caley goalkeeper a virtual spectator as Paatelainen's players turned in a feckless 90 minutes totally lalcking in any quality whatsoever.

Caley, seemingly destined for relegation only a few weeks ago, fully merited their win as they continued their remarkable renaissance under new boss Terry Butcher, this victory following draws with Celtic and Dundee United which sandwiched a Homecoming Scottish Cup triuimph over Kilmarnock.

If all the talk before the game had been as to which of the three players released by Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen over the course of this season who had washed up on the shores of the Moray Firth, namely Brian Kerr, Filipe Morais and Thierry Gatheussi, might come back to haunt the Finn, the name of Proctor, a one-time teenage hopeful at Easter Road, escaped all attention.

But it was the Caley midfielder, with his first goal of the season, who opened the scoring after 14 minutes, exchanging passes with team-mate Doug Imrie before finding the time and space to guide a low shot into the net from 16 yards.

While second-best for most of the first half, Hibs did have a glorious chance to equalise seven minutes later when Ross Chisholm set Jonatan Johansson racing free but, with only goalkeeper Ryan Esson to beat, the Finnish international drove a low shot inches wide of the target.

It was to be the best opportunity created by Hibs in the opening hour as Paatelainen's side turned in a woeful performance, Caley taking full advantage of their visitors' hesitancy and apparent lack of confidence as the unmarked Foran pounced on a loose ball to rattle home Caley's second with 64 minutes on the clock.

The sorry statistic for Hibs as he did so was that they had failed to get even one shot on target, a fact which remained unaltered as the final whistle sounded.

On a day when the 3 teams directly above us drew and Killie lost, this was the perfect chance to actually live up to all the talk from mixu about still chasing Europe by taking 3 points. But this MUST be the last straw, listening to the commentary, we were woeful, the manager doesnt have a clue.

This is getting beyond a joke and serious long term harm is being done to the club with this muppet in charge. He must go now, not in a month or 2 but now so we can rescue top 6 this season and build for next.

At least sauzee had the decency and grace to accept his failings and depart with his reputation still high amongst the fans. Mixu is losing the vast amount of respect hibs fans had for him.

Mixu, resign. If you dont have the guts, then petrie will have to step in. Whatever the case, something has to be done in the next day or 2.

Thats 8 games won out of 36 now, is petrie only going to act when hibs are facing relegation? On paper hibs have a reasonable squad so the only direction the finger can point is mixu. Its a shame but Hibs will not get top six this season under mixu
10

le pundit,

21/02/2009 18:10:58
Hibs scarfs thrown onto pitch at the end spells the end for mixu, not a single Hibs player got pass marks, what annoys me is we have the players to take command of the third place, but mixu can't motivate, come on petrie nows the time, only plus point is Hearts are falling away like their stadium, and have the massive debt, HIBS WE NEVER HAVE AND HOPE NEVER WILL STOOP TO THEIR LEVEL, come on now petrie get to work, we ARE the third biggest club in scotland.

#8 Your right, I was on a bit of a rant so maybe wasnt very clear. At least with sauzee the board acted swiftly and altho he was obviously he wasnt the right man for the job, they didnt let things get to such a desperate stage as they are now where a hibs legends reputation, and the clubs short term future, is seriously in jeporady.

Also agree with #11 Hughes seems the logical choice unless the board can find another mowbray
25

Giuseppe Tortolano,

21/02/2009 18:31:28
I think the fact that I was neither surprised nor particularly bothered by this result says it all really. What I am bothered about is the continuing damage being done to our club and its reputation whilst being 'managed' by Mixu.

NOT A SINGLE SHOT ON TARGET, ffs!

< SIGHS DEEPLY >

Please go...............

26

Dood,

21/02/2009 18:32:10
I wouldn't hedge my bets on the board getting rid of Mixu quite yet. The problem that we've had is that it's been painfully obvious all season that he's not up to the task, and yet because he's a fans favourite, he's had no pressure applied.

This board is not a 'sacking' board. Unless serious fan pressure is applied, I can't see Mixu's departure as imminent.

And as for the John Hughes suggestion, why do we routinely go for ex-players? Since Eddie Turnbull, I think it would be fair to suggest that we haven't had a particularly successful ex-player as a manager, and we've had a few......

Start the new search now, but broaden it slightly.....

Its a football forum, for comments!

The mess the Hibs are in would interest most football supporters. There is a decent squad at Easter Rd. being run into the ground by a complete fool of a manager who is lost when it comes to tactics, systems and how to utilise the talent he has on the books.

Sorry dood did not mean to offend you by posting about football, typical finishing comment in you're post, "GTF"

It would be good if Mixu threw in the towel but he is an expert in self-delusion. A couple of weeks ago motherwell played us off the park and he claimed we should have won. So Mr Petrie will have to admit he's made a blunder and let Mixu continue his apprenticeship elsewhere. A shame, because Mixu has bought Riordan, Bamba, Rosa and the keeper, all of whom would be top class players in a half decent team

Good point, he has brought in good players. Sadly, he has not brought in the right players. It took him a year to sign a goalie. No left back, no playmaker, a joke of a right back..........

Thats part of my reason for thinking yogi would be a good candidate, not saying he should be the only one in the running but I feel TM was a bit of a one off and dont know how many experienced coached would join hibs at the moment

Also, with the story about Nish going to China:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/h/hibernian/7901744.stm

Mixu has blantantly lied to the fans as he claims in the same article that "He stays with us. He's in our plans and is doing a good job for us." But the article states that it was nish who rejected the move and hibs were happy to take the money for him going on loan for 8 months.

Incompetence is one thing, not his fault i guess but lying to the fans who pay your wages is not acceptable
41

Plantagenet,

21/02/2009 19:31:24
Mixu must stay, you get the manager that you deserve, as for Hibs coming good, you sold practically an entire team of good players, replaced them with gash, (apart from Riordan) but given time he will spread his own poisonous bad influence in the dressing room, and you lost the best manager you had for years, so keep up the good work Hibs.

I think it is clear that the fans are not happy with Mixu, and rightly so! right from the start of this season, in fact preseason! you could tell Mixu was not up to the job, he has had us playing a 4-3-3 for weeks on end being overrun by opposition midfield and losing games, once the penny dropped we played 4-4-2 and did not lose for 5 games, we played the "shame" beaten by 1 goal, Mixu changes back to the 4-3-3 and we don't win in 5? Team selection is a mystery, playing DVZ at all? playing JJ against hearts whilst still no match fit? playing A O'B? not playing Yantorno? etc, etc, etc,,,,,,,
